The 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas in just around the corner (October 30 to November 2), and people are expecting special parts and equipment as well as concept builds to show up. Three of the builds that are going to the 2018 SEMA Show will be derived from the seventh generation of the Volkswagen Jetta, as announced by Volkswagen of America, Inc.
These Jetta builds are the H&R Special Springs Jetta R-Line, Air Design USA Jetta SEL and the Jetta S by Jamie Orr. All of them will be displayed at various locations in the Las Vegas Convention Center on the entire duration of the 2018 SEMA Show.
Wrapped in the Habanero Orange factory finish, the H&R Special Springs Jetta R-Line is a build that highlights the aftermarket suspension offerings from H&R Special Springs. We are all aware that the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will hit dealerships by the end of this year. But that is not the only thing that we are excited about as it will also be cheaper than its predecessor. The company just announced that the MQB based sedan will have a price tag of $18,545 when it goes on sale later this year - excluding handling and destination. This still makes it $100 less than the outgoing model which starts at $18,645.
The VW Jetta comes in a number of different trims, and the most standard one will be the S trim that is equipped with a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine that makes 147 horsepower (109 kilowatts) and 184 pound feet (249 Newton metres) of torque. The Jetta S will then be working with a standard six speed manual transmission, or you could opt for the eight speed automatic transmission for a little more (plus $800). Some its other standard features are its 16 inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, and a 6.5 inch infotainment screen, which has Bluetooth connectivity and is compatible with your Apple and Android devices.
The next trim will be the SE model that starts at $22,155. This trim will be getting the same 1.4 liter turbocharged engine that is exclusively paired to an eight speed automatic, without a manual option. Additional features include a panoramic sunroof, a dual zone automatic climate control, a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and heated front seats. Safety features that come standard with this include forward collision assist and blind spot monitoring with rear traffic alert.Read the entire article 2019 VW Jetta costs $100 less than the outgoing model
Today, manual transmissions have become rare in mainstream cars and are more commonly found in performance cars within the $20,000 to $40,000 range. However, the selection of affordable, three-pedal performance has shrunk, and now Volkswagen announces that the next generation Jetta GLI would not have a manual gearbox as well.
We have got some news regarding the 2018 VW Jetta GLI, thanks to Volkswagen for revealing that it will be losing its manual gearbox. Having said that, it will now exclusively be offered with a six-speed, dual clutch automatic gearbox.
In their official statement, and in an interview with CarsDirect, Volkswagen spokesman Mark Gilles confirmed the earlier reports. But they also added that less than 30 percent of the Jetta GLI sales were of the manual version. Unlike the company’s GTI five-door hatch Golf variant, both manual and automatic transmissions were pretty much popular.Read the entire article 2018 VW Jetta GLI is exclusively offered with 6-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox
Volkswagen has brought the MOMO Edition Jetta GLI to the 2016 Chicago Auto Show following its debut last year at the SEMA Show. Built with the all-new Jetta GLI, the MOMO Edition is made with an OEM-Plus tuning with an Italian flair to appeal to sports-oriented customers. With its 19-inch MOMO aluminum-alloy wheels and the Volkswagen 210-hp, 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged and direct-injection EA888 four-cylinder engine, the Jetta GLI offer superior performance and style.
The GLJ 19"x8.5" MOMO Revenge wheels demonstrate the first "mesh" wheel design, filling the GLI fenders sharply. The split-10 spoke wheels come with concave centers and raised caps, perfectly fitting the 235/35 XR19 Pirelli P Zero tires. For precise cornering tune-in and better handling, the MOMO Edition has low-profile tire sidewalls and uses H&R suspension components.
These features include H&R Street Performance coilovers located at each corner as well as front and rear sway bars, which provide a tuned ride height for a bolder stance. Complementing the 210-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder Volkswagen engine is a Milltek Sport stainless steel cat-back exhaust that increases breathability and provides a distinctive, sporty sound.Read the entire article MOMO Edition VW Jetta GLI graces 2016 Chicago Auto Show
The wait is finally over! Volkswagen has confirmed that it will introduce a MOMO Edition of the sports compact, the VW Jetta GLI 2.0T in 2016. Frequently referred to as OEM-plus, the new vehicle presents the same advantages as the turbocharged VW sedan but it’s clearly designed to be much sportier.
The VW Jetta GLI 2.0T boasts an Italian feel, bold 19” MOMO light alloy road wheels, a stylish MOMO steering wheel, and a vibrant red and yellow color interior. MOMO’s “mesh” design is making a comeback on the 19 x 8.5” MOMO Revenge wheels after nearly 3 decades.
Available in matte anthracite and matte black, it is a split-10 spoke wheel concaved in the center and comes with raised cap detail. The new MOMO Revenge EVO wheel that’s set to come out in 2016 is sharp too but it comes with a new finish.Read the entire article 2016 VW Jetta GLI MOMO Edition debuts at SEMA Show
The entry-level Volkswagen Jetta compact cars will be powered by a new downsized, turbocharged engine, which replaces a four-cylinder motor that has powered this model for over two decades. Volkswagen of America said that this new 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is the most recent version of VW’s EA211 series of small-displacement engines.
It is built with aluminum construction and has dual-overhead camshafts, gasoline direct injection and variable valve timing. A VW spokesman said that the new engine is capable of delivering 150 hp and 184 pounds-feet of torque, representing a significant improvement from the 115 hp and 125 pounds-feet produced by the engine being replaced.
This naturally aspirated 2.0-liter, single-cam engine originated in the mid-1990s. Since the 2.0-liter engine is used by about 30% of Jettas sold in the U.S., it puts this model at a disadvantage to other compact cars that have newer engines that delivered improved fuel economy, more refinement, and additional horsepower.Read the entire article 2016 Volkswagen Jetta gets new 1.4-liter turbo engine

Back in 1984, Volkswagen introduced the first Jetta GLI to the United States market and set the blueprint for all subsequent versions of this beloved sport sedan. For those who don’t know, the first Jetta GLI was in fact a Golf GTI running gear wrapped in a Jetta sheetmetal. It was powered by a 1.8-liter engine rated at 90 hp, bolted to a close-ratio five-speed transmission, sport suspension with front and rear anti-roll bars, and vented front disc brakes.
The exterior design showed a tail spoiler, and bodyside moldings, while inside Volkswagen installed a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel and shift knob, three additional gauges in the center console, sport seats, and distinctive upholstery and interior trim.
2014 Jetta GLI follows the same recipe and it is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI engine bolted to a 2.0-liter TSI engine, a close-ratio six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Moreover, the Jetta GLI comes with a sport suspension, bigger wheels and tires, upgraded brakes, more aggressive body styling, and an interior that features sport seats and pedals.Read the entire article 2014 Vw Jetta GLI Edition 30 celebrates the first Jetta sport sedan
Volkswagen is recalling its Jetta Hybrid sedan to replace the faulty gearbox oil that can place the low-volume unit in a “stall-like” condition, according to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Jetta Hybrid features a seven-speed dual dry clutch transmission, which is an automated manual transmission shifted electronically with fast-acting electronic solenoids and actuators.
Jetta Hybrids built between October 2012 and October 2013 feature additives in the transmission oil that can leave deposits inside the transmission. According to NHTSA, those deposits could corrode the transmission's internal electrical components, short it out and make the car seem like it is stalling.
The loss of power could heighten the chances of an accident, according to NHTSA. Volkswagen dealers will change the gearbox oil. The recall covers 3,837 Jetta Hybrid models in the United States. The recall is part of 1.6 million vehicles built with the seven-speed dual dry clutch transmission that was earlier recalled around the world, according to VW spokeswoman.Read the entire article Volkswagen is recalling Jetta Hybrid to replace faulty gearbox oil
Besides the Jetta Racer’s Dream, FMS Automotive also customizes another Mk6 Jetta, this time powered by the all-new 1.8-liter turbo engine. This model is actually a tribute to the 1989 Helios Special Edition Jetta GLI and comes in the same Helios Special Edition blue-and-black paint scheme as the late ‘80s original.
The color isn’t all, as the Jetta comes with custom body side moldings, a rear spoiler and side mirrors painted to match the Helios blue/black paint design theme. Golf R brake calipers featuring the “Helios” logo replace the standard pieces, while the 19-inch Volkswagen Motorsports wheels in ceramic gunmetal gray hide them.
For an enhanced sound and more style, a new custom exhaust system was added. Inside, we find Recaro sport buckets reupholstered in Helios-inspired blue, black and gray striped inserts.Read the entire article 2013 SEMA Show: Helios Special Edition Jetta GLI Tribute
Volkswagen unveiled last Monday, its next-generation compact wagon at the ongoing Geneva Auto Show. The compact wagon is identical to the new seventh-generation Golf from its front bumper to the B-pillar. It is slated to replace the current model, known as the Golf Variant in Europe and as the Jetta SportWagen in the U.S. VW is set to roll out the new compact wagon in Europe in August and in the US in late 2014.
Marketing the new compact wagon in the US means that VW still see demand for conventional wagons in the country. Conventional wagons had been losing market share to more popular sports utility vehicles and crossovers.
While VW is introducing new wagons, its sister brand Audi has already replaced its A4 Avant wagon with the crossover-like all-road for the 2013 model year.Read the entire article Vw Golf 7 Variant will hit the US as the Jetta SportWagen by 2014
Volkswagen has started to take advance orders for the new Jetta Hybrid in Germany. Volkswagen considers the saloon as one of its most successful model series. The Jetta is considered one of the top-selling models of all German automakers in the U.S. The new Jetta Hybrid is being launched as a model that depends on the potent combination of a TSI turbocharged petrol direct-injection engine (110 kW / 150 PS) and an electric motor (20 kW / 27 PS).
Driving performance is outstanding with the use of the turbo hybrid’s system power of 125 kW / 170 PS. Nevertheless, the new Jetta Hybrid has reached a low fuel consumption value of only 4.1 litres per 100 km with CO2 emissions of just 95 g/km.
The 210 km/h saloon could then consume around 20% lower fuel than a conventional vehicle with a similar size and power. In all-electric driving, the Jetta Hybrid can cover 2 km with only one press of a button. Furthermore, the hybrid system instantly shifts to the zero emissions electric mode when possible.Read the entire article 2013 Vw Jetta Hybrid now available for order
It appears that one hybrid car land speed record is not enough for Volkswagen as the German company returned to Salts Flats on October 5th and broke the Southern California Timing Association's (SCTA) H/PS land speed record for production cars with engines of less than 1.5 liters that use forced induction.
According to the official press release, Vw Jetta Hybrid driven by Motor Trend Associate Road Test Editor Carlos Lago averaged 186.313 mph over two runs during the SCTA's World Finals event. Lago eclipsed the previous record by 18.8 mph. Moreover, in the second run, Lago averaged 187.147 mph for the last mile, beating the magical 300 km/h mark.
For those who don’t know, the 2013 Jetta Hybrid uses a 1.4-liter turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder TSI gasoline engine, a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission but also an electric motor. The total output delivered by the engine and electric motor is 170 horsepower, along with 184 pound-feet of torque.Read the entire article Vw Jetta Hybrid breaks another land speed record
Volkswagen said that the 2013 Jetta Hybrid has a starting price of $25,790 (including a $795 destination charge). For fully equipped models, the prices could go as high as $31,975. The Jetta starts selling later this year. The highest-priced Volkswagen Jetta is the most fuel-efficient. Volkswagen had launched the 2013 Jetta Hybrid at last January’s Detroit auto show.
It features a 1.4-liter turbo-four gasoline engine and electric motor/generator, which provides a combined 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The EPA didn’t release official figures yet. However, Volkswagen is claiming that its hybrid is capable of returning 45 mpg and that when running without the gasoline engine, it can reach speeds of up to 44 mph. In addition, the Jetta Hybrid can accelerate from zero to 60-mph run in 9.0 seconds.
The mentioned low price only applies to the base Jetta Hybrid, which will be offered exclusively through special orders only. It is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, power windows, automatic climate control, power windows, a CD player with Bluetooth and an auxiliary port, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Moving up one step, we have the $27,785 Hybrid SE, which provides LED taillights, a power driver’s seat, a touchscreen radio with satellite radio and an iPod interface, and push-button start.Read the entire article 2013 Vw Jetta Hybrid priced from $25,790
A ‘Hybrid Speed Record’ was set by a turbocharged Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid, which was driven up to 185.394-mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats. This production-based hybrid has attained the fastest speed that has ever been reached at the Salt Flats. The Jetta Hybrid received modifications according to the rules of the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA).
As a result, the 1.4-liter turbocharged TSI four-cylinder engine can deliver 150hp. It is partnered with an electric motor that produces 27hp. Volkswagen accomplished the high-speed record while using a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Volkswagen R&D, which is based in Wolfsburg, Germany, modified the powertrain.
California-based A-Salt Racing and Advanced Product Engineering made changes on the car so that it could be driven safely at high speeds on the salt. Meanwhile, the engineers at the Volkswagen Test Center based in Oxnard, California were tasked to do the implementation and final calibration of the drivetrain. Motor Trend Associate Road Test Editor Carlos Lago was driving this car when it set the record.Read the entire article Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is world’s fastest hybrid
Volkswagen continues to entertain plans to produce a crossover version of the future Jetta SportWagen to extend the Jetta lineup. This model would be quite similar to the Alltrack concept, which was presented recently. Autoweek, a sister publication of Automotive News, spoke to a senior Volkswagen executive who said that there is “definite sales potential” for a new lifestyle-targeted Jetta model to enter North America and other global markets.
He said that the new model may be based on the one that succeeds the current model. He is referring to a Subaru Outback fighter with an increased ride height, unique bumpers and light graphics, with extra wheel-arch cladding and specialized interior trims.
So that development costs wouldn’t go out of control, the same steel body and mechanical package are used by the wagon and the crossover. Volkswagen conceived the crossover to be equipped with either the standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive.Read the entire article Volkswagen Jetta Alltrack in the works
Volkswagen of American launched the 2013 Jetta Hybrid at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The new Jetta Hybrid is considered to be one of the most efficient vehicles on the market right now, with the fuel efficient and environment-friendly combination of high-tech turbo petrol engine and zero-emission electric motor. Meanwhile, Volkswagen's 7-speed DSG, which is one of the most efficient and most advanced gearboxes around, manages the sporty saloon's power transmission.
After the Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid, the Jetta Hybrid is the second VW model to have a drive module under its bonnet containing a petrol engine as well as an electric motor, which combine to bring you the lowest fuel consumption values and superior overall performance. More specifically, the new Jetta Hybrid delivers a very low fuel economy value (45 mpg), which means that the car uses up 20% less fuel than other similarly powered cars equipped with a conventional drive system.
You can also choose to drive the new Jetta Hybrid in electric mode with one press of a button, allowing for zero emissions at up to 44 mph speed and over a 1.3-mile distance.Read the entire article 2012 Detroit Auto Show: 2013 Vw Jetta Hybrid
As you may know already, earlier this year the Honda Civic already scored too low to be Recomended by Consumer Reports. As a result, Honda announced that the Civic will receive an update next year and hopes to boost its sales in the United States by 24 percent. Now there are some good news regarding the Civic: its sportier SI version earned a notably higher rating from Consumer Reports.
Still, the car suffers from many of the same drawbacks as other Civics: vague steering, cheap plastics, a jittery ride, and lots of noise. According to Consumer Reports, the Civic Si ranks 9 out of 11 of tested cars in Consumer Reports' sporty car category, and powered by the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine pumping 201 hp, the vehicle delivers terrific acceleration at high revs.
In terms of fuel-efficiency, the Civic Si returns a very good 29 mpg overall. "The Civic Si has a great powertrain, but it needs a better car wrapped around it," said David Champion, sr. director of Consumer Reports Automotive Test Center.Read the entire article 2012 Vw Jetta GLI outscores Honda Civic Si in Consumer Reports’ tests
