German carmaker Volkswagen has just revealed the next generation of the VW Passat family sedan, but there is a twist. The all-new Passat that was just unveiled was created for the massive automotive market in China. Nonetheless, this Passat is an important model as might be able to provide a glimpse of how the next-gen sedan for the United States might look like when it finally arrives.
Nonetheless, it should be noted that while having the same name, the VW Passat bound for China is much different from the existing large sedan models in the United States and in Europe. The recently unveiled China-bound Passat sedan is undeniably influenced by the VW brand’s understated and simple design mantra. In fact, the front end of this China-bound Passat sedan seems to be adopted from the Arteon, especially the shape of its new grille.
The Arteon-like front grille of the China-bound VW Passat is flanked by elegant headlights that extend to the sides. When viewed from the sides, this Passat reveals a sleek profile with some liftback influences. While this Passat does have a sloped roofline, it is a traditional sedan featuring a small trunk opening.Read the entire article Volkswagen unveils next-generation Passat for China
Earlier this week, we talked about Volkswagen’s plans to halt the production of the US spec Passat for a few weeks during spring. And now, we just learned new things about its European counterpart. The Wolfsburg based manufacturer said that the Euro spec Passat will be out in the market very soon, though they did not give a particular date.
Dr. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Volkswagen brand, said in his speech at the annual Volkswagen Media Conference, that the Passat is almost ready to arrive in dealerships across the Old Continent. But he stops there and does not give any other details. However, he did mention that the Passat will be available as Variant and hybrid models.
Unlike the US spec Passat, the European variant of the model sits on an MQB platform. The eighth generation of the D segment vehicle was launched way back in 2014, as a premium car that is still affordable to most. This model will be available as a traditional sedan, a practical wagon, and a rugged Alltrack wagon.Read the entire article Facelifted VW Passat will be available in Europe this year
Back in the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, Volkswagen showcased a Passat GT Concept at their booth. Though it has been a little over a year since that happened, the automaker has finally come up with the production model of the 2018 VW Passat GT and will bring it at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. And all we can say is that it looks exactly like the 2016 concept. Just without the bold GT graphics on the sides.
So. What does the production model have to boast? Well, it definitely has a touch of sportiness. Both the exterior and interior also got over 20 visual enhancements. The front fascia comes with standard LED headlights as well as daytime running lamps, paired with the bumper from the R-Line. There is also a new black honeycomb grille that replaces the one on the stock unit, and is surrounded by red trim. After all, anything GT must have a hint of red.
There are also black accents all around the car, from the side mirrors, the door trim, to the subtle GT fender badges as well as the blacked out roof. In the rear, there is a new black spoiler with more black trim, paired with a set of LED headlights that had been darkened.Read the entire article Detroit Auto Show: 2018 VW Passat GT production model has arrived
Volkswagen of America, Inc., revealed that it will be officially unveiling the Passat GT Concept during the Automobility LA, also known as the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. Specifically, the Passat GT concept is powered with the 3.6-liter TSI VR6 engine that is paired to the automatic dual-clutch DSG 6-speed transmission. The transmission itself is controlled by using the shift paddles that are placed on the steering wheel.
On the inside, the Passat GT offers a more athletic feel given the carbon-fiber pattern seen on the instrument panel and the door trim. Helping with this impression are the black-and-gray two-tone sport seats that have contrast stitching. There is also console trim in piano black and the black headliner.Read the entire article VW reveals Passat GT Concept at 2016 LA Auto Show

We already know that Volkswagen is working hard on the next-generation Passat, one of its most popular models in its lineup, and this weekend we managed to talk with one of the people involved in the development of the new German vehicle. We found out that the 2015 Volkswagen Passat B8 will make its world debut in October, at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
This might not be a surprise for most of our readers, as the seventh-generation Passat was also revealed at the Paris Motor Show, back in 2010. According to our source, the 2015 Vw Passat will get a longer wheelbase (length increased by 7 inches – which means more interior space for the rear passengers), but the length of the car will remain almost the same.
For those who don’t know, the current Vw Passat has a length of 4,769 mm (Estate model 4,771 mm). As expected, the 2015 Passat will use Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform and the lineup will include four models: the sedan, a new CC, CC Shooting Brake and the traditional Estate. Volkswagen AG is recalling around 160,351 Passat sedans (MY2012-2013) in the United States and Canada due to a possibility that a low-beam headlight may fail to function. According to VW, when the hood of the Passat is closed roughly or dropped from a certain height, the resulting vibration or impact can lead to a loss of electrical contact to a low-beam headlight bulb's connector.
A loss of the light could result to reduced visibility, the carmaker said. VW said that a warning light on the instrument panel will immediately alert the driver if that occurs. The carmaker said there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue, adding that it will notify owners to bring their units to a dealer. The dealer will install an improved bulb fitting free of charge.
The hood bumpers will also be inspected and adjusted or replaced as necessary to prevent the hood from contacting the headlight assembly. The recall covers about 150,201 Passats in the United States and about 10,150 in Canada, VW said. While the Passat is also sold in other countries, the number of cars affected outside of North America were not immediately available.Read the entire article VW is recalling 160,351 Passats in North America

The Passat BlueMotion Concept delivers 150 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Other innovations found on the Passat BlueMotion Concept is the coasting function, offered also on the Jetta Hybrid. How does this work?
