Vw to introduce the Golf GTD in the United States in 2015

Volkswagen will increase its diesel lineup in 2015 with the Golf GTD, its first performance-oriented diesel unit for the United States. The GTD has the same sports suspension as the gasoline-powered Golf GTI and is available as a two- and four-door hatchback. The Golf GTD is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that provides up to 184 hp of output and 280 pounds-feet of torque.

According to VW, the Golf GTD could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in around 7 seconds and could return over 40 mpg on the highway. The car will employ urea to cut oxides of nitrogen, with the urea tank filled during change oils.

The VW Golf GTD will come as a variant of the seventh-generation Golf that will arrive in the US next summer.

2013 Volkswagen Golf 7 GTD UK pricing announced

Interested buyers in the United Kingdom could now order the latest version of the Volkswagen Golf GTD that was unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in March. The new Golf GTD has a starting price of £25,285 on the road – just £310 more than the older model despite improvements in performance and equipment.

The new Golf GTD is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged common rail diesel engine (TDI) that provides up to 184 PS of output and 380 Nm (280 lbs ft) of torque from just 1,750 rpm.  This power allows the new Golf GTD to accelerate from zero to 62 mph and it takes just 7.5 seconds to achieve a top speed of 142 mph while consuming just a gallon of fuel for every 67.3 miles and emitting 109 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer traveled.

With the optional six-speed DSG, the new Golf GTD has fuel consumption figures of 62.8 mpg and CO2 emission numbers of 119 g/km. This was the same numbers that the first generation Golf BlueMotion, rolled out in 2007, has registered, only that the new Golf GTD has more power and torque.

2013 Vw Golf 7 GTD officially unveiled

Volkswagen introduced today the Golf 7 GTD ahead of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The new car is powered by a 2.0-liter TDI engine delivering 184 PS (135 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lbs ft) of torque at 1,750 to 3,250 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-seed manual garbox as standard, but as an option the German manufacturer offers a six-speed DSG, which deliver the power to the front wheels.

Regarding the performances, the Golf 7 GTD is able to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 230 km/h or 142 mph. Still, the Golf 7 GTD needs only 4.2 litres per 100 km, which equates to CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km.

With the optional 6-speed DSG, fuel consumption is 4.7 l/100 km (two-door: 119 g/km CO2; four-door: 122 g/km CO2). Regarding the design, the Golf GTD comes with smoked LED rear lights with LED licence plate illumination and chrome dual tailpipes. Moreover, the Golf 7 GTD features 17-inch GTD wheels with 225/45 tyres, side sill trim, diffuser, sport suspension and a large roof spoiler round out the car’s overall dynamic impression.
