Swedish carmaker Volvo Cars has taken the wraps off its latest creation – a new midsize premium wagon (estate) dubbed as the new 2019 Volvo V60. Volvo intended the V60 to be a family all-rounder, underscoring its position as a carmaker with the tradition of producing good-looking yet practical cars.
To strongly deliver the message that the new V60 is a family all-rounder, Volvo went for an unconventional yet persuasive manner of introduction. Instead of unveiling the new V60 at a motor show or at an auto-related event, the carmaker revealed the new premium wagon at the driveway of an up-market villa in the suburbs of Stockholm, Sweden. It was driven into the driveway – where it really belongs -- by Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo’s senior vice president for the Europe, Middle East, Asia region. This way, Volvo was able to send a clear message that the new V60 is designed to cater to the needs and wants of modern family.
As introduced, the new V60 is underpinned by Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform that also underpins the new XC60 and four top-of-the-line 90 Series cars. Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, recently launched the 2018 Genesis G70 to go against German models like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4. But while its rivals offer their models in wagon variants, Hyundai doesn’t have a G70 wagon variant. This is because some customers just prefer to have a little more space for their junk. To keep up with the competition, Genesis might need to have a long roof variant of its own. But how would it look? X-Tomi Design helps us imagine it.
The current G70’s design features a flowing roof that goes all the way to its sporty rear, including an integrated upward kink towards the edge of the trunk. X-Tomi Design’s rendering retains its original shape, but stretches it a little creating a longer line and some extra space in the rear. The rear end now gets a spoiler to keep its performance-oriented appearance.
At this moment, Genesis offers three options of the G70 at launch in South Korea, and they have not given any details regarding the US-spec model. The Korean version’s base trim has a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder that carries out 248 horsepower (185 kilowatts), and with the Performance Package, 251 horsepower (187 kilowatts) and 260 pound-feet (353 Newton-metres) of torque. Another option is the 2.2 liter four-cylinder turbodiesel with 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts). And for the range topping trim, you’ll get a 3.3 liter turbocharged V6 that produces as much as 365 horsepower (272 kilowatts) and 376 pound-feet (510 Nm) of torque. While the reveal of the 2018 BMW M5 (F90) has been met with plenty of applause, there are a number of people who want a much wider trunk space from this model on top of the hot sedan's updated look, more powerful engine and new performance features like shifting from an all-wheel to a rear-wheel drive.
But since the Bavarian company has not come up with that yet, an artist from X-Tomi Design has rendered one. And what was created looks like a facelifted M5 Touring. It was back in 2007 when BMW last offered a Touring version of the M5, when it was released with the E61. Also, back then the company did not produce that many units of the M5 Touring, and the variant did not even reach US soil. Since then, BMW has skipped the touring trim in the last generation F10.
This is why we think that this rendering should encourage BMW to produce a Touring variant, which would make a lot of customers more satisfied. Under the hood of the 2018 M5 is a 4.4 liter V8 that produces as much as 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton metres) of torque. This powertrain lets it hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in just 3.4 seconds, before reaching its top speed of 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour). The mere thought of a Rolls-Royce wagon is quite silly. But hey, it didn’t take us long before we realized that it isn’t that hideous after seeing X-Tomi Design’s latest spinoff.
The artist derived its digital rendition from the eighth generation Phantom following the limousine’s official launch in London. Rolls-Royce did come up with wagons way back when there were no SUVs yet. Do you remember the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud from 1959 that the coachbuilder converted into a wagon? There used to be four of them. As a matter of fact, the British automaker did those conversions together with H.J Mulliner and so the idea of a Rolls-Royce wagon isn’t totally new.
“Project Cullinan” instead is now in the works and will be the first sports utility vehicle to be offered officially by the luxury carmaker. Even as Volkswagen has just started taking orders for the VW Arteon in Germany. Arteon fanatics are already asking for a wagon variant of the Passat sedan. Some people actually prefer a long-roof version of it. It’s an awesome idea, if you ask us.

Alpina had previously teased customers and fans alike with a teaser for its upcoming 2018 B5 Bi-Turbo sedan. That is not enough it seems as the company has released another teaser showing the B5, this time the Wagon version, going through mountain roads. With this, the anticipation for the new B5 has increased further prior to its official debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
Based on what can be gathered from the video, it appears that the new B5 will have the XDrive configuration, and if not offered as standard then a possible option. There is no word however if the brand will release the D5 at the same time as the B5. If not, then it is likely that it will be a few months before Alpina will reveal the diesel version.
With regards to power, many are saying that the B5 will hopefully have at least the same capability as that of the 4.4-liter biturbo V8 engine. Before commencing sales, the South Korean carmaker is full on its intent to officially take the veil off the third generation of the Hyundai i30 Tourer at the upcoming 2017 Geneva Motor Show scheduled next month.
But already, Hyundai has divulged some details about the 2017 i30 Tourer that it thinks would help build up interest for the small family wagon. For instance, Hyundai has revealed how large the new i30 Tourer is. Its overall dimensions measure 4,585 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,465 mm in height. When the roof rack is specified, the overall height increases by 10 mm to 1,475 mm. Meanwhile, the five-door version of the third-gen Hyundai i30 Tourer is shorter than the four-door variant at 4,340 mm. Barely a month before its official debut, Hyundai gave everyone a taste of what’s to come with the 2017 Hyundai i30 Wagon. Despite what little was shown, it did not disappoint as the general consensus is that the boot capacity of this latest offering is expected to be greater than the previous model.

Skoda has implemented a significant facelift on its best-selling model, the Skoda Octavia. To be launched by the of the year, the 2017 Skoda Octavia – in its mid-cycle refresh – features new design elements both on the front and the rear, as marked by dual-faced split headlights that could be availed with the latest full-LED technology.
It also features the latest generation of infotainment systems, mid-class driver assistance systems and technologies. Hyundai seems determined to offer a station wagon version of its latest i20 subcompact hatchback, according to Hyundai Europe’s design boss Thomas Buerkle. He also added that the i20 wagon could follow the same design line of a traditional wagon or it could be a mix between a station wagon and a shooting brake in three- and five-door variants.
This new vehicle will take on rival vehicles such as the Skoda Fabia Combi or the Peugeot 208 SW. This move could help Hyundai increase its sales in the subcompact segment in Europe, which will introduce the new i20 five-door model starting early next year, while the i20 Coupe will arrive later in 2015.
Comparing it with its predecessor, the new i20 is wider, lower and comes with a longer wheelbase as according to Buerkle, the vehicle was a little bit shy before. The long-wheelbase, seven-seat version of the 2014 Transit Connect Wagon accounted for around 85 percent of Wagon sales in July. The short- and long-wheelbase versions now have combined average of around 34 percent of total Transit Connect sales, including the cargo van – compared to just a 13-percent Wagon mix with the previous generation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded five-star Overall Vehicle Score -- the highest possible overall rating -- to the 2014 Ford Transit Connect Wagon. Cadillac has unveiled a coupe version of the ATS sedan at the Detroit Auto Show. However, it won’t be the last variant that will be derived from Cadillac’s compact sedan, as the luxury carmaker has other plans for the vehicle. Cadillac global chief Bob Ferguson vows to make available other body styles for ATS, which includes a convertible and a wagon.
“You've made the investment. You've built a brand within a brand," Ferguson told Automotive News in an interview. "If you have a winner, you should exploit that and offer variations." Cadillac is well expected to offer a V series high-performance ATS sedan that could be unveiled later this year. General Motors, however, remains unclear on the other variants of other ATS.
In 2012, then GM North America President and incoming global product chief Mark Reuss told Automotive News that plans for an ATS convertible were "pretty much designed" but the US carmaker was holding off on a decision. Volkswagen Group of America may launch a rugged, all-wheel-drive wagon based on the next-generation Golf to rival the Subaru Outback, Automotive News reported, citing sources privy to the carmaker’s product plans. VW has approved an all-wheel-drive version of the redesigned Golf-based Jetta SportWagen, which will be rolled out in the United States in late 2014.
According to sources, the German carmaker is high likely to turn the AWD version into a spin-off model with higher ground clearance and body cladding, which is similar to the Alltrack concept unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show. VW is already selling a model -- a modified Passat wagon called the Passat Alltrack -- that rivals the Subaru Outback in Australia.
The German carmaker, however, discontinued the Passat wagon in the US when it introduced the Chattanooga-built Passat in 2011. The pricing on the new Ford Transit Connect Wagon hasn’t been announced yet but it’s believed to be competitive. The Transit Connect Wagon, a minivan by another name, is built on the platform that’s also used by the Ford Focus and Escape. It is powered by the same 4-cylinder engines. Since there’s no rival in the minivan segment, Ford offers the C-Max in only the hybrid form.
The retrofitted commercial vehicle serves two purposes as it’s also a carrier for people. Ford hopes to provide the best fuel economy rating in its class. The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder delivers 168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque while the optional EcoBoost 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder produces 173 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The two engines will exclusively come with a 6-speed automatic.
Even if it’s a distinctly European-styled vehicle, it’s not available with a manual transmission. It can seat seven people. Ford has revealed more details about the passenger-friendly, U.S.-spec 2014 Transit Connect Wagon. Ford had introduced the new 2014 Ford Transit Connect at its global product roll-out in September. Ford had already offered a five-passenger Transit Connect Wagon in the market but because of its limited seating and bare-bones interior, it didn’t appeal to small families and would be more suited to small businesses.
For example, its cargo area didn’t have panelling or insulation. To remedy that, Ford gave the 2014 Transit Connect Wagon a fully-trimmed interior and a third row of seating. This enabled Ford to create another niche for its small van offering. Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s vice president of global product development and engineering, released a prepared statement.
