Nissan LEAF lithium-ion battery pack will carry a warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles

Nissan announced today that the LEAF will be available to consumers starting December in in California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Tennessee.

These areas will be the home markets of the EV project due to the partnership with charging infrastructure provider ECOtality and partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Energy.

Starting January 2011, the new car will be introduced to Texas and Hawaii, while in April 2011 customers from North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina and Alabama, will also receive it.

Despite threatenings, Opel sticks to lifetime warranty

Opel/Vauxhall is in the hot seat as its lifetime guarantees on new vehicles have made German competition authorities upset enough to threaten to sue for misleading advertising. Alain Visser, head of sales and marketing at the General Motors Co. unit, defends its guarantees and asserts that he opposes the authorities' claims that the campaign was "misleading."

He said that the unit is not even thinking about dropping this campaign. Recently, Opel had received criticism from Germany's federal committee for its alleged unfair commercial practices when it launched the campaign providing a lifelong warranty on new cars.

Visser clarified that similar to other guarantee offers, those of Opel/Vauxhall has conditions, which he claims have been presented very clearly.

Bmw certified pre-owned 2007 models get warranty boost

If you're hesitating to purchase a BMW pre-owned car, then this news is likely to push you into buying one. BMW of North America is improving its no-cost maintenance plan and is adding two years or 50,000 miles on select certified pre-owned 2007 models sold between Feb. 2 and March 31.

This upgrade gets activated when a new-car transferable four-year or 50,000-mile warranty expires. BMW customers who qualify include certified pre-owned 2007 3-Series, 5-Series and 7-Series. They are eligible to receive the no-cost maintenance plan upgrade that raises the warranty to six years or 100,000 miles.

Russ Lucas, manager of BMW Pre-Owned Sales, said that this is the "bread and butter" and "the heart" of its lineup. He added that these stand for 45% of its sales.
