A few years ago, Subaru came out with the S207 limited edition in Japan, and it was marketed as the more powerful version of the WRX STI. This year, the Japanese automaker decided to do the same thing, but gave the performance sedan even more power this time, and they are calling it the WRX STI S208. Similar to the last one, this will only be exclusive to Japan, only 450 examples of the special version will roll off the assembly line too. Do not be fooled as it is not just the exterior and the interior that got some enhancements, but significant changes have also been made.
To improve the overall driving experience, the WRX STI is now made with a carbon fiber roof to lower the center of gravity, while also cutting down some of its weight. For even better agility and control over cornering, Subaru and STI worked together and gave the sporty sedan’s suspension some tweaks.
Though the Japanese automaker did not specify, they mentioned that the S208 will have an improved output compared to the S207. Though my guess is that it would have just a little less than 400 horsepower. Just for some reference, the previous model had a 323 horsepower turbocharged 2.0 liter engine with 318 lb-ft (431 Nm) of torque - that is a little more than the newly released 2018 WRX STI Type RA, which is actually available in the United States. The said model also has a carbon roof, and under its hood, a 2.5 liter unit producing 310 horsepower and 290 lb-ft (393 Newton metres) of torque.Read the entire article Subaru S208 is a beefier version of the WRX STI
Shortly after the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, Subaru with the help of Mark Higgins and Prodrive racing team, pull off a stunt that no one has ever done before, leaving the people with goosebumps, heart palpitations, and jaws dropped to the floor.
Mark Higgins, who hails from the Isle of Man, started his motorsport career at the age of nine as he took up karting. He then became a professional at the age of 17 after being noticed by Roy Dixon for his talent. Since then, he has competed in a range of motor sport activities such as karting and trail biking.
The three-time British Rally Champion (1997, 2005 & 2006), was also the stunt driver in a couple of James Bond films namely Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, plus many other film and TV sequences. He is also the record holder of the Snaefell Mountain Course at the Isle of Man TT - but take note, he drove a Subaru WRX STI, instead of a motorcycle.Read the entire article Video: Watch how Bond’s stunt driver takes the Subaru WRX STI sideways in bobsled run
Subaru just commenced sales of the fifth-generation Subaru Impreza months ago starting with the 2017 model. It was very impressive with its new appearance, but we won’t be able to see its new looks on the Impreza WRX or WRX STI soon, especially if the current generation of these performance models was just introduced in 2015. At the earliest, the next generation high-performance Impreza model would be available by the end of the decade.
But while the upcoming 2018 Subaru Impreza WRX and the Impreza WRX STI won’t sport completely new looks, the changes made were what many customers, fans and enthusiasts were waiting for – a more dynamic performance and a more aggressive appearance to match.
Just like on the WRX, the 2018 Subaru WRX STI boasts of a revised suspension tuning. Not only that, Subaru tweaked the DCCD AWD system by employing electronic control, thereby resulting to a quicker and smoother response. It also gave the 2018 Subaru WRX STI a set of newly designed 19-inch alloy wheels – with the Y-shaped spoke design – wrapped in 245/35R19 tires. Behind the wheels is the upgraded Brembo Performance Brake System with yellow-painted brake calipers.Read the entire article Subaru upgrades looks, performance of 2018 WRX and WRX STI models
Held every year in Las Vegas in Nevada, the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (SEMA Show) is one where customers and enthusiasts alike are bound to see some of the most wonderful creations in the automotive industry. Indeed, there have been a lot of exciting new models. However when it comes to odd offerings, this year is no different.
ACE Alloy Wheels has included in its display an engraved version of the Subaru WRX STI. This customized sterling silver STI was the work of Japanese tuning company Corazon, which created the body kit that included a deep chin spoiler and large fender flares. The kit also allows for changes on the rear diffuser, side skirts, and front bumper. After that, the swan-neck wing is added together with the titanium exhaust system. While this may appear to be unusual on a sedan, it appears such practices are common, if not popular, where Corazon hails from.
For this customized STI though, it was not all about Corazon as the Japanese company collaborated with ACE Flowform, which was responsible for putting in a drift car spoke design and the blue alloy that had an overlip design.Read the entire article Engraved Subaru WRX STI on display at 2016 SEMA
The 2015 Subaru WRX and WRX STI have earned the 2014 Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The vehicles both logged good performance in each of the Institute’s crashworthiness assessments, including the small overlap front test.
The latest accolade means that Subaru now has six models that have earned 2014 safety awards from IIHS -- three with Top Safety Pick and three with Top Safety Pick+ -- including the Legacy sedan and Outback models with optional EyeSight.
The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive Subaru WRX comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder 268 hp engine paired to a six-speed manual transmission.Read the entire article 2015 Subaru WRX and WRX STI earn 2014 IIHS Top Safety Pick award
This S206 version of the Impreza WRX STI is a product of the STI tuning division of Subaru. Japan fans are in luck since this model will be on display at the Tokyo Motor Show and is available in the country too. But it won’t be offered in the UK similar to the special STI-tuned S202, S203, S204 and R205 models that came previously. Subaru considers the S206 to be the “crown of its STI tune cars.”
The revisions to the S206 when compared to the standard WRX STI include additional power for its engine (which was exclusively built) and a group of sporty styling upgrades.
It also received a complete makeover for its suspension. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine got an extra 20bhp over the standard WRX STI to reach 316bhp. Its torque was also raised by 18lb ft to 318lb ft. Other modifications include an improved twin-scroll turbocharger, STI-tuned ECU and sports muffler with lowered back pressure exhaust.Read the entire article Subaru Impreza WRX STI 206 revealed ahead of 2011 Tokyo Motor Show
What Subaru accomplished at the Los Angeles Auto Show was to confirm the U.S.-market name for its new small crossover and to give assurances to the media that the rear-drive-only BRZ doesn’t mean the end of its AWD hot rods. It was recently reported that for the first time, the next-generation WRX and STI will use their own distinct platform. As a result, this distances the enthusiast models from the workaday Impreza on which they were previously based.
Subaru added that the WRX will still be turbocharged and will have a forced-induction version of its new 2.0-liter “FB” boxer four. The STI version has an output of more than 300 hp. Using this new platform reduces the curb weights for both.
As they have different platforms, it’s understandable that “Impreza” will be dropped from the names of the next-gen WRX and STI when they arrive about two years from now. This means that enthusiasts will get to choose from among three models that have three-letter names.Read the entire article Next-generation Impreza WRX and STI models will carry a 300+ hp 2.0-liter engine
According to the latest reports, it seems that Subaru will begin selling the well-known Impreza WRX and STI performance models separately from the standard Impreza when the car will be redesigned next month. Moreover, the Impreza name will be removed from the derivates, which means that we should get used to the Subaru WRX/STI names.
The new cars will also get their own platforms when they will be redesigned in 2013. According to Bill Cyphers, senior vice president of sales for Subaru of America, this new strategy will allow Subaru to focus on the redesigned Impreza's improved fuel economy and added interior space.
New WRX and STI models will allow Subaru to market them more easily as performance cars and to give them interiors and features more appropriate for more expensive sports cars. Regarding the 2013 models, Cyphers refused to give any details, but he said that the STI will continue to be powered by a 300+ hp engine.Read the entire article Subaru to separate WRX and STI performance models from the Impreza
Official details about Subaru’s WRX STI haven’t been released yet but insiders have said that the high-performance version of the all-new Subaru Impreza will arrive at dealerships in the summer of 2012. It’s expected to be launched about a year from now. It will appear first as a 5-door hatchback but a sedan version may follow.
Subaru is planning to enter the WRX STI in numerous motorsports events. The hatchback may soon appear at rally events while the sedan competes in touring-car races. It’s still uncertain if the U.S.-spec WRX STI will be different from the home-market version but it’s likely that both will deliver over 300 bhp.
This model will be equipped with a new version of the FB flat-4 with a turbocharger. Sources say that the 2.0-liter engine has an output of 330 bhp and 324 lb.-ft. of torque, making it 8 bhp and 12 lb.-ft. higher than the existing domestic model. Even with the added power, its fuel economy rating will still be better.Read the entire article 2012 Subaru Impreza WRX STI: first details and specs
Sources say that Subaru’s next-generation WRX and STI production models won’t arrive for at least two more years. These models are based on the all-new 2012 Impreza that will start selling this November. While waiting, the existing models will continue to be in production. The purpose of the delay is to give time for the regular Impreza to gain a foothold in the market.
It will also give time for Subaru’s officials to respond to internal questions on whether the next WRX and STI would be more mature or if they will remain as visceral rally sleds, according to Caranddriver.
The last time that Subaru attempted to build a WRX for grownups didn’t go too well as the 2008 model was heavily criticized. The automaker announced a series of upgrades, of which the changes were most significant between the 2008 and 2009 WRXs. Its output increased from 224 to 265hp.Read the entire article Subaru WRX and STI models based on the 2012 Impreza are still far away
Subaru has launched the fourth generation Subaru Impreza, marking the separation of the Impreza model from the WRX and STI variants. The new 2012 Subaru Impreza naturally aspirated models will start selling as soon as the issues in supply production from Japan are resolved. The third generation WRX and STI variants will continue to be available in the near future.
It’s believed that Subaru is doing this to differentiate between the two models so that the WRX and STI variants can be known as unique sport models instead of as merely halo models for the Impreza. Subaru may also be doing this due to the new 2.0-litre boxer engine, which Subaru doesn’t plan on turbocharging.
The EJ25 turbocharged engine that’s currently in the WRX, STI, Forester XT/S-Edition and Liberty will be around before a replacement is found. The EJ design architecture has been around for over 20 years but it has been able to keep up with rivals and has been extensively modernized through the years.Read the entire article Subaru planning to differentiate the Impreza from WRX and STI performance models

With a sub five second sprint to 62 mph, STI can be categorized as a supercar, dispatched in just 4.9 seconds.Read the entire article Subaru offering more power and satellite navigation system for the WRX STI

Subaru released the availability and pricing of the 2011 WRX STI in the UK. Subaru has stopped using the Impreza designation for the latest generation. Both the four-and five-door variants of the new WRX STI are priced at GBP32,995. This is actually the first time that the four- and five-door versions have been sold together in the UK.
Powering the STI is a 2.5-litre Subaru boxer 16-valve turbo engine with Dual Active Valve Control that has an output of 30 hp and 407Nm of torque.
The 2011 model has the same output as the outgoing STI but it features improved torque delivery throughout the rev range that leads to improved response and more linear acceleration. Sprinting from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) can be done in only 5.2 seconds.Read the entire article 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI introduced in the UK
Later this year, a four-door Impreza WRX STI from Subaru will be launched in the UK. The saloon was unveiled at the New York Motor Show last spring. It is created to improve the demand for the cult performance classic, which shifted to a five-door hatchback body style in 2007.
The arrival of the saloon in the UK is expected to cast doubt about the hatchback’s future as there have been no imports of this car to the UK since the 2008 model year. During the launch, Subaru America chief operating officer Tom Doll said the saloon “will expand the appeal of the iconic performance model.”
He added that what drove the car’s introduction is the “strong, loyal and vocal support” from thousands of owners. At the Nurburging, the Impreza saloon underwent extensive development work.Read the entire article 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI to make its debut in UK later this year
