Renault’s YouTube video featuring its Captur mini-crossover is as controversial as it is effective in attracting attention. Here is why. The video shows a gang of masked daytime robbers who forced two innocent people -- a man and a woman -- to help them get away in a Captur to a given destination.

The robbers had their “victims” use the navigation application of the R-Link infotainment system installed in the Captur to guide them to their “base.” It turned out in the end that all was an act. The video has generated over 5 million views since its release in June.

Viewer reception for the YouTube video was mixed, with 494 hitting “Dislike” versus 579 clicking “Like.”

Geneva: Renault introduces facelifted version of Captur for 2017MY

Around four years after Renault launched its Captur subcompact crossover in 2013, the French carmaker has decided to make several changes on the way this elegant vehicle looks. Thus, for the 2017 model year, the Renault Captur will be receiving a facelift just enough to make it still appealing.

Furthermore, the interior also received several updates, with six interior personalization packs to choose from. Customers could now choose from Caramel, Ivory, Ocean Blue, Patina Chrome and Red, Satin Chrome to color the interior of their new Renault Captur.

Renault will unveil the new Captur subcompact crossover at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

Renault presents ‘Iconic’ Special Editions of Twingo, Clio and Captur

Expect a new high-specification special edition for each of the Twingo, Clio and Captur small cars – all featuring interior and exterior elements and specification upgrades distinct to each model.

These special editions -- dubbed as "Renault Iconic Special Editions "— can be availed in an array of available engine options like the Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic transmission for Twingo TCe90.

First off is the new Renault Twingo Iconic available from £11,845, which is derived from the Dynamique version of the Renault Twingo city car. Customers can choose from four available colors, including two new distinct metallic paints: Ultraviolet and Lunar Grey.

DAB Radio is now standard on most Renault Clio and Captur models

Buyers of the new Renault Clio and Captur will be able to take advantage of certain spec upgrades. All Clio and Captur models with either the MediaNav or R-Link infotainment systems will feature DAB radio as standard equipment.

This excludes the entry level versions of the Renault Clio and Captur, since these base models are without MediaNav or R-Link infotainment systems. With the addition of DAB radio, drivers and passengers alike could now tune in to more radio stations while on a trip.

The good news doesn’t stop there. Renault has also made available upgraded versions of the MediaNav and R-Link. Upgrades for the Medianav system include the addition of features like Bluetooth streaming and TMC traffic information, as well as SIRI “Eyes-Free” for compatible iPhones.

YouTube content creators are joining Nissan in its return to the Super Bowl, bringing their own twists and shouts to the Japanese carmaker’s #withdad theme. While Nissan said the videos don’t in any preview or tease the actual ad on the big game broadcast, they reinforce the message being conveyed by the campaign.

Nissan’s YouTube channel features a #withdad hub that will aggregate the video uploaded by content creator to their accounts. Nissan is letting YouTube stars add their own flavor to the automaker’s Super Bowl storyline. One of these content creators is Roman Atwood, who turned his house into a giant ball pit.

His video has already been viewed over 15 million times since it was posted. These YouTube content creators usually have their devoted followers who are high likely to share their videos. Nissan is one of the many Super Bowl advertisers, both past and present, who usually create a buzz around their ads week before the big game.

In order to make the Captur more attractive in the UK, Renault announced a new top-of-the-range trim level called Signature. Priced from 17,495 GBP, the 2015 Renault Captur Signature is based on the Dynamique S MediaNav version and adds exclusive features as standard.

When it comes to exterior design, the Captur Signature shows 17-inch Explore alloy wheels with black inserts, chromed exterior details on the front grille, fog lights, side strips and boot lid.

Moreover, the vehicle is available as standard with a two-tone exterior finish and with an optional Flame Red metallic paint. In addition, Renault offers a choice of three metallic and two solid colours. As expected, the interior also received several upgrades such as part-leather upholstery, Signature door sill plates, Signature floor mats, but also the Red Touch Pack that adds bright red details to the centre console, air vents and speakers.

A Chevrolet commercial uploaded on YouTube featuring a dying dog is creating waves. The 60-second emotional Equinox spot -- produced and uploaded Herd Films, features a dying Golden Retriever named “Maddie.” Its owner is saying goodbye to the dog and suddenly, the story goes backwards – showing scenes like her birthday celebration, her breakup with her boyfriend, her college graduation, her move into her apartment until when she was still a little girl picking a puppy from a litter and naming her Maddie.

"A best friend for life's journey," spot notes as the family enters into their Equinox after buying the pup. Because of the spot’s appeal to emotion, most people loved it and a few criticized – but overall it was an overwhelming success as it has already attracted nearly 1.4 million views on YouTube. Chevrolet, however, has never actually aired “Maddie,” according to said spokeswoman Cristi Vazquez.

The spot’s producer, Herd Films, was one of 13 finalists in an Oscars film contest conducted by Chevrolet and MOFILM. It was Herd Films, not Chevrolet, that posted the spot to YouTube, Vazquez said. When asked if Chevrolet has plans to air “Maddie,” Vazquez replied, “Not right now."

Renault may increase the output of its Captur subcompact crossover by a third next year to cope with the rising demand for small sports utility vehicles in Europe. Rochelle Chimenes, a spokeswoman for Renault, told Automotive News Europe that they expect to build 120,000 Capturs by the end of 2013, and possibly 160,000 units next year if needed.

IHS Automotive expects annual sales of subcompact SUV/crossovers to reach 582,790 units in Europe by 2016 from 307,300 this year. According to data from market researchers JATO Dynamics, segment sales surged 38 percent to 213,804 vehicles in the first half.

Captur was launched in April and it joined other newcomers in this segment in Europe like the Peugeot 2008, Chevrolet Trax and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka.

Volvo Trucks uploaded a trending two-minute clip on YouTube featuring Charlie the hamster and the new Volvo FMX equipped with Volvo Dynamic Steering.

The clip intends to highlight Volvo Trucks’ Volvo Dynamic Steering system that enables drivers to steer a fully loaded truck without effort. During low speeds, an electric motor replaces the driver's muscle power, but still delivers perfect steering feel in all operating conditions.

Jan-Inge Svensson, the engineer behind the development of the software for the Volvo Dynamic Steering at Volvo Trucks, remarked that the system makes a heavily laden vehicle so easy to maneuver “that it can be steered with just one finger.” He added that on the road, the Volvo Dynamic Steering “offers unbeatable directional stability.”

Renault Captur has secured a five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) after acing the body’s passive safety tests. The small crossover achieved a global score of 80.5 percent, becoming the 15th Renault model to earn Euro NCAP’s maximum five-star passive safety rating. Renault Captur’s high safety score was a result of the adoption of a precise, responsive chassis.

The carmaker aimed for Captur to provide the same high standard of passive safety as the New Clio, since both cars are underpinned by the same platform.

Renault’s excellent safety performance was achieved through research on road accidents as well as on the real-world behavior of motorists – all done to develop safety solutions founded on a more holistic, efficient approach.

Renault fans throughout the world can vote for their favorite personalized Captur in their country’s colors during the Geneva Motor Show. There’s an application on Renault’s international Facebook page that allows fans to choose from a variety of personalized versions that use the colors of the following countries: Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Britain, France, Germany, India, Italy, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.

Renault Design came up with these stunning personalizations. After all the votes are submitted, the winning personalized Captur will be built and will then be displayed at different events for 2013. Renault will announce the vote results on March 18 on Facebook.

According to Florence de Goldfiem, Vice-President, Corporate Communications for the Renault Group, the Inter-Country Battle is a recent addition to the exclusive content that’s available to fans of the international Renault Facebook page. So far, this page has about 400,000 fans.

The styling of Renault’s new compact crossover, the Captur, is inspired by the Clio. The Captur, which will be a rival to the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008, will be presented this March at the Geneva motor show. It will be launched in the UK in late spring. The Captur name originates from a completely styled concept car that appeared at the 2011 Geneva show.

None of its unusual features like the concept’s scissor doors have been carried over to production. What will be kept though are its ethos and the concept’s name. Many of the Captur’s features come from the Clio.

The Captur will feature the new fourth-generation supermini’s prominent front-end and sculpted side surfaces. But Renault said that the Captur is distinct from the Clio and will be offered and sold separately from the basic supermini.

Microcar maker smart has launched its latest advertising campaign via an innovative short film developed for and uploaded on the video-sharing site YouTube. The YouTube-exclusive film features the world’s first-ever tandem skateboard, characterising smart’s capability to make fun reach new heights.

Using the modern city of Barcelona as a backdrop, pro freestyle skateboarders Kilian Martin and Alfredo Urbon rode the unique skateboard and performed mind-blowing stunts, flips, turns and twists.

These two professional freestyle skaters managed to pull off a number of previously unseen maneuvers, which are choreographed to the music of “You Rascal You,” as performed by rock artist Hanni El Khatib.

McLaren Automotive is featuring the new McLaren 12C Spider on a high quality short film at its official YouTube channel at youtube.com/mclarenautomotivetv. The start of the short film centers on a 12C Spider, finished in glorious Volcano Red, cruising in high speed on track and then proceeding to the winding mountain roads of Andalucía in Southern Spain.

The scenes on the short film underscore the 12C Spider’s positioning as a luxury convertible sports car that provides a dynamic mix of performance and usability. Early in the short film, the 12C Spider has its Retractable Hard Top lowered while it cruises, highlighting the model’s unique trait that rival sports cars don’t have.

The 12C Spider could completely retract its hard top in just less than 17 seconds. The short film features McLaren Automotive Test Driver and British Touring Car Championship star Mat Jackson who demonstrates why the carmaker believes it has developed a sports car that includes ‘open-top thrills’ in a set of technology packages inspired by its Formula 1 race cars.

YouTube's $100 million experiment in original content has attracted a number of big-time companies who are willing to advertise on the video streaming site for as much as $62 million. Yes, Youtube has become very confident it could attract hordes of viewers by delivering a TV-like appointment viewing though its 96 premium “channels,” that it has placed a very expensive price tag on and dangled in front of large companies. 

Many of them took the bait and signed up to advertise for some channels that they think would be viewed by their target customers.

These companies include: Toyota, which is supporting a number of Youtube channels targeted at women like "Cafe Mom," "Kin Community" and "Mom's View"; General Motors, which recently agreed to sponsor Red Bull's action sports channel and some automotive-focused channels; and Unilever, which is backing "Young Hollywood Network," founded by YouTube star R.J. Williams.

Renault revealed today the Captur Concept, a new design study that will make its word debut in March, at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. As you can see from the photos, the new Renault Captur Concept carries the same design philosophy seen also on the DeZir Concept defined by the simple, sensuous and warm style.

Designed as a fun and sporty crossover for young people, the new Captur Concept adopts the new front grille seen on the DeZir Concept and its design is completed by the 22-inch black and white rims. The interior is exactly what you expected from a concept car and features fluorescent highlights picked out by a constant stream of light.

According to colour and trim designer, Kana Watanabe, the inspiration came from the human body, outdoor sports and urban styling. The vehicle is powered by the Energy dCi 160 twin-turbo engine concept which will eventually replace the 1.9 dCi.
