2011 Audi A8 priced in the U.S. from $78,050

Article by Christian A., on September 28, 2010

The 2011 Audi A8 luxury performance sedan will carry base price of $78,050 (excluding $875 destination charge, taxes, title, options, and dealer charges). For those who don’t know, the new Audi A8 flagship model comes with an8-speed Tiptronic transmission and the next-generation of the Audi MMI system.

The new MMI system comes with the exclusive MMI touch technology, featuring a touchpad with handwriting recognition, allowing you to enter multimedia, navigation and communications commands.

Furthermore, the 2011 Audi A8 comes with the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System featuring 19 speakers and 1400 watts of power for a sound quality designed for the most discriminating audiophiles.

The larger 2011 Audi A8 L will carry a base price of $84,000 (excluding $875 destination charges, taxes, title, options, and dealer charges). The V8 engine found in the 2011 Audi A8 delivers 372 horsepower and an ample 328 lb-ft. of torque.

The engine achieves 17 mpg in the city/ 27 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg combined, which means that the new A8 takes on the Mercedes-Benz S400 hybrid and has a better fuel economy than the Bmw 7-Series hybrid and 6-cylinder models.

Safety features in the new Audi A8 also include the Audi pre-sense system that works together with the Adaptive Cruise control. The standard form of the pre-sense system receives and analyses the information from ESP sensors. When the system sense maximum brake application or vehicle skidding, the control unit will then take over and handle the situation.

It may activate the hazard warning lights while closing the side windows and the sunroof and it may also tension the front seat belts. If the situation does not lead to harm, the control system will release the belts.

Customers could further enhance the Audi pre-sense system by availing of Audi pre-sense front, Audi pre- sense plus and Audi pre-sense rear systems. These systems are all included in the optional Adaptive Cruise Control with stop & go function and Audi side assist systems.

Audi pre-sense front – in coordination with Adaptive Cruise Control stop & go – checks the front traffic and provides driver support in four stages. The first stage involves a warning signal while the second entails a warning jerk through a brief deceleration.

If the driver responds by depressing the pedal, the brake assist system will then implement braking relative to the vehicle in front. However, if the driver does not respond, the third stage will commence and will entail an autonomous partial braking that will slow down the vehicle at a rate of 3m/s2. The third stage will also close the windows and the sunroof and will activate the hazard warning lights. This stage will also tension the seat belts.

A fourth stage is available only when the full version of Audi pre-sense plus is installed on the Audi A8. In this stage, the system will activate braking to initiate an initial deceleration of 5m/s2, and will then implement full braking.

The fourth stage will kick off around half a second before the collision. But even through collision is imminent, the impact will be less since A8’s speed has already been reduced by around 25mph. On the other hand, Audi pre-sense rear system reduces the impact of a rear end collision. This system will close the A8’s windows and sunroof. It will also tension the seat belts and will move the front seats into the optimum position.

On the other hand, the fully secured cabin of the Audi A8 features attention to detail and high technology. Interior elements include double glazed windows, LED ambient lighting and Valcona leather seats.

Technological features, meanwhile, include Audi Music Interface iPod connection, DAB digital radio and MMI Touch infotainment incorporating HDD satellite navigation with predictive route technology. Other technological features include four-zone climate control, cruise control, Audi Parking System Plus and a keyless go system.

Audi Sets U.S. Prices for 2011 Audi A8 Luxury Flagship Sedan

Audi announced U.S. manufacturer's suggested retail prices for its all-new Audi A8 flagship luxury sedan, as well two 2011 Audi R8 V8 models coming in late 2010 and the updated Audi TT quattro Coupe and Roadster coming in early 2011.

Across its 2011 model-year U.S. lineup, Audi has lowered base prices as it introduced more efficient engine packages, left prices on some models unchanged from 2010 models or raised prices modestly.

"With this 2011 pricing strategy, Audi is determined to hit the sweet spot of performance, technology and value," said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. "The model year ahead offers great promise for the Audi brand to build on its momentum story in the U.S."

2011 Audi A8 | Pricing and highlights

The U.S. pricing for the all-new and technology-infused 2011 Audi A8 luxury performance sedan begins with an MSRP of $78,050(excluding $875 destination charge, taxes, title, options, and dealer charges).

The starting price for the normal wheelbase version of the Audi flagship model includes a broad range of advanced features, such as an efficient 8-speed Tiptronic® transmission and the next-generation of the Audi MMI® system with the industry exclusive MMI touch technology.
