2011 Bmw 5-Series Touring by Hamann

Article by Christian A., on May 11, 2011

HAMANN-Motorsport has created an estate car version of the new BMW 5 Series. The Touring has been given an aerodynamics package, which includes a range of designs, a sports exhaust system, light-alloy wheels and interior modifications. The HAMANN makeover is offered for several versions for the 5 Series Touring.

The first features a front spoiler lip for the stock Touring. It gets the M-technology package and a front skirt that HAMANN developed with four integrated LED daytime running lights and larger air inlets.

It also features sporty side skirts and a diffuser-rear skirt with inserts for the four-tailpipe exhaust system. The downthrust is boosted with the presence of spoilers at the rear and at the roof. The 5 Series Touring is made more impressive with a set of 21-inch light-alloy wheels dubbed as the "ANODIZED" EDITION RACE DESIGN.

This complete wheel set features matt black central boss and high-gloss rim, with 255/30 ZR21 tires at the front and 295/25 ZR21 at the back with a price tag of €8 390.00. In addition, HAMANN has developed the "Anniversary Evo" design that comes in 20 or 21-inch rim sizes with a choice of silver or matt black.

The BMW 5 Series Touring is lowered by around 35 mm with the use of progressively-wound suspension springs, emphasizing the light-alloy wheels even more. HAMANN provides four tailpipes for its rear silencer for all engine models. For the 550i Touring, HAMANN offers a sports metal catalyzer with middle silencer.

The fourth generation of BMW 5-Series Touring is not only designed to deliver superior driving pleasure and sporting elegance, but it also offers both efficiency and versatility. Its dynamic styling, premium-level functionality and excellent efficiency are augmented by comfort and safety features that include several BMW-exclusive driver assistance systems. In terms of design, the body of the new BMW 5-Series Touring tells a story of active sportiness marrying modern elegance.

Evidence of this includes the Touring’s passionately stretched silhouette, its coupe-like roofline and side window surfaces that extend to the rear. All of these elements artistically redefine the touring concept into a new BMW 5-Series Touring with a stunning yet appealing well-balanced character. Its dynamic aesthetics, sophisticated surfaces and painstaking details all expose the BMW 5-Series Touring’s sporty handling, high-class ambience, varied-use interior space and modern functionality.

In addition, the BMW 5-Series Touring exudes an elegant and high-quality appearance that represents the model’s status and capability to deliver luxurious comfort in the upper midrange segment. As siblings, the new BMW 5-Series Touring and the new BMW 5-Series Sedan share some design elements. These design elements, are strictly limited on the front end while extending to the B-pillars of the vehicle’s body. Thus, just like the new BMW 5-Series Sedan, the new BMW 5-Series Touring gets an expressive and emotional front end that still features a number of elements typical of BMW, albeit reinterpreted specifically for the 5-series.

Moreover, all important design principles were carefully implemented on the new BMW 5-Series Touring, resulting to a form consistent to its body concept. Interestingly, the meticulously sculptured body of the new BMW 5-Series Touring make it seem that the vehicle is carved from one cast. Its well-balanced proportions expose the fact that the BMW 5-Series Touring features an advantageous front-to-rear weight distribution. Its long bonnet, wedge-shaped silhouette and short overhangs make the Touring model seem to be moving forward even at a standstill.

Allowing the new BMW 5-Series Touring to offer outstanding cabin space is the fact that its wheelbase measures 2,968 mm in length – the longest in its segment. At a glimpse from afar, the new BMW 5-Series Touring seemed to be even-tempered. However, at a closer inspection from another point of view, the new BMW 5-Series Touring really features a well-meaning interplay between light and shade, thereby exposing the 3D character of the vehicle’s convex and concave surfaces.

On the other hand, the new BMW 5-Series Touring is laden with intricate and premium details like chrome design elements with integrated side indicators, a roofline that extends, and door openers integrated into the side contour lines. This touring model also features the so-called "Hofmeisterknick," or counter-swing on the rear section of the integral side window surround at the base of the D-pillar.

After the limousine, HAMANN-Motorsport now also vamps up the estate car version of the new BMW 5 Series. In Laupheim the Touring is upgraded to become a fitness studio for up to five persons. All done with the aid of an aerodynamics package with a variety of designs, a sports exhaust system, light-alloy wheels and improvements to the vehicle interior.

The refined HAMANN sporty makeover is even available in several versions for the 5 Series Touring. The selection starts at the front with a front spoiler lip for the normal Touring, an additional one for vehicles with the M-technology package and a front skirt specially developed by HAMANN with four integrated LED daytime running lights and larger air inlets. Sportily-designed side skirts continue the modified appearance right through to the rear.

A diffuser-rear skirt with inserts for the four-tailpipe exhaust system, a rear spoiler and a roof spoiler ensure additional downthrust.

So that the 5 Series Touring can make an impressive appearance on the tarmac, HAMANN offers a choice of light-alloy wheels. Very appropriate for the job is the 21-inch "ANODIZED" EDITION RACE DESIGN. With Its matt black central boss and high-gloss rim, the "ANODIZED" EDITION RACE DESIGN is delivered as a complete wheel set with 255/30 ZR21 wheels at the front and 295/25 ZR21 tyres at the back at a price of €8 390.00. In addition there is the "Anniversary Evo" design in 20 or 21-inch rim sizes with a choice of silver or matt black.

With progressively-wound suspension springs HAMANN lowers the BMW 5 Series Touring's centre of gravity by around 35 mm, which sets off the light-alloy wheels even better.

At the rear, the four tailpipes belonging to the sports rear silencer stand out; they are supplied by HAMANN for all engine models. In addition, and exclusively for the 550i Touring, a sports metal catalyser is available with middle silencer.

In order to give the occupants exclusive surroundings with a sporty note, HAMANN refines the vehicle interior with a 10-part carbon decorative set in matt titanium grey, also available in other colours at an additional charge, a sports steering wheel including airbag and aluminium pedals complete with footrest, as well as velours floor mats with logo. On request, the in-house leather workshop can embellish the headrests with the HAMANN signature.
