The pricing information for the new Volkswagen Jetta was recently revealed, with the entry-level S 1.4-liter TSI 122 PS model bearing a starting price of £16,960 RRP ‘on the road’ while the range-topping Jetta, the 2.0-liter TDI with DSG, is priced at £22,320.
The VW Jetta lineup certainly offers a high value for your money, especially with features such as air conditioning, an MP3 compatible CD stereo, six airbags, ABS, Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), an alarm and folding rear seats.
In comparison with the car it replaces, the new VW Jetta is 90 mm is longer at 4,644 mm with a wheelbase increase of 70 mm to 2,648 mm. This expands the rear legroom by 67 mm. The rear bench seatback is split 40/60 and folds, increasing the car's versatility. The interior also features a new steering wheel designed to impress both visually and to the touch.
Regarding the safety, the new car has been further enhanced with even more protections and crash safety improvements. The Jetta is packed, as standard, with six airbags – driver and front passenger airbags; side airbags in front; and side curtain airbags in the front and rear. Rear side airbags could also be availed as an option.
All these airbags are fast-deploying, as made possible by a special sensor system that can detect crashes and their intensity. Once the system detects a forceful impact, it will accordingly ignite the airbags. The system’s electronics gauges low-frequency "palpable" deceleration signals while its accelerometers evaluate frequency components in the mid or "audible" range.
The new VW Jetta has a new look that exudes elegance both on its exterior and its interior. Its panels are exclusive and can’t be seen on other Volkswagen models. The Jetta is offered with a range of efficient and refined TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines.
There are two petrol engines available for the new VW Jetta. Buyers can opt for either the 1.4-liter TSI 122 PS entry-level engine or the range-topping twincharged 1.4-liter TSI unit that generates 160 PS. The diesel range begins with a very efficient 1.6-liter TDI engine that delivers 105 PS.
The 2011 VW Jetta has BlueMotion Technology features including Start/Stop and battery regeneration as standard. It returns 67.3 mpg on the combined cycle while its CO2 emissions level is at 109 g/km. Buyers of the VW Jetta can also choose a 2.0-liter TDI engine developing 140 PS. This is also highly economical; it returns 58.9 mpg combined and has a carbon dioxide emissions figure of 126 g/km.
Jetta Buyers may also request for a seven-speed DSG gearbox to go with the 1.6-liter TDI or the 1.4-liter TSI 160 PS unit. The 2.0-liter TDI comes with a six-speed DSG transmission.
