2012 Audi A1 Sportback gets a price tag in the UK

Set to arrive in early 2012 is Audi’s five-door supermini – the A1 Sportback. Audi’s sales teams in the UK have announced that order books for the premium A1 five-door will be opened beginning this month. Its prices range from £13,980 to £21,270. The Sportback is six millimetres taller and six millimetres wider than the A1 three-door.

The Sportback’s interior also provides a slightly bigger head room and shoulder room too. The A1 Sportback will be available with five TFSI and TDI engine options in the UK.

These are: 1.2 TFSI petrol (86PS, 160Nm), 1.4 TFSI petrol (122PS, 200Nm), 1.4 TFSI twin-charge petrol (185PS, 250Nm), 1.6 TDI diesel (105PS, 250Nm). Buyers can also choose between manual or S-tronic double-clutch gearboxes. The Audi A1 Sportback will arrive in showrooms early next year.

This five-door compact is targeted at a young, urban audience. It’s obvious from its design, dimensions, and lightweight body that it is closely patterned after its three-door sister model. This new model has a length of 3.95 meters (12.96 ft).

It is taller by several millimeters and as a result, there’s more space in the rear seats. The Audi A1 Sportback comes with four seats as standard. However, buyers can ask for a fifth seat to be placed at no additional charge.

Audi has just created a new version of a coupé after the three-door A1 model. Among the standards for its design are the exquisitely styled rear hatch, powerful engine hood, the sophisticated roofline with spoilers and the deeply sculpted C-pillars. Name it, and it’s all in here.

Because of the close resemblance, some of the features have in fact become appallingly obvious. The large single frame grille with slanted corners always leaves a lasting impression at front end. This section also consists of the optional Xenon Plus headlamps, daytime LED running lights and the elegantly shaped taillights also in LED.

For a change, Audi offers an optional paint job by special order. The Audi A1 Sportback’s roof arch, roof spoiler and the roof itself can be customised in three-colour combinations. There are about 12 shades available for this model, which also includes the Sportback-exclusive Samoa Orange.

The new Audi A1 Sportback is also introducing the S line package for those who want an extraordinary exterior. The set includes the hottest accessories for those who wish to avail the smartest and sportiest features available. In line with this, Audi will also be releasing some of its colourful decal sets and aerodynamic kits very soon.

When it comes to the specs, the A1 Sportback has an exact wheelbase as the three-door coupé measuring at 8.10ft. The overall length also falls at 12.96ft. However this time, the width, size and height between the two models are considerably different. The new Sportback measures 5.74ft wide and 4.66ft tall. Other than that, the enhanced aerodynamics on the base model is able to show off an amazing 0.32 coefficient of drag.

The rigid yet lightweight body of the A1 Sportback is basically made of high and ultra high strength steel components. In fact, almost two-thirds of its entire body is built with the extremely high tensile strength steel. And what does it do? These hot-shaped steels go through high temperature so that the very thin walls will help bring out the new Sportback’s nimbleness on the road.
