2012 Citroen DS5 has a starting price of £22,400 in the UK

Citroen said that the Citroen DS5 (the third variant added to the DS range) has a starting price of £22,400 for the entry-level e-HDi 110 Airdream EGS6. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line DSport Hybrid4 version is priced from £32,200. It will go on sale starting this April. Customers can choose from four engines: a 1.6-litre petrol THP with 197bhp, e-HDi diesel with 108bhp, the HDi with 158bhp and the new 197bhp diesel electric Hybrid4 unit, which has CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

All these models will be offered with manual, automatic or electric gearbox system (EGS) six-speed gearboxes. Three trim levels are available: DSign, DStyle and DSport.

The base model DSign trim features keyless entry and start, cruise control, automatic dual-zone climate control and automatic wipers and headlights. The DStyle includes part leather seats, sat-nav, rear parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof and a reversing camera. And the top-of-the-line DSport versions have a head-up display, front parking sensors, full leather upholstery and electric heated seats.

The new model’s exterior gets the car’s unique chrome ‘sabres’ that extend from the tips of the headlamps to the front windows, a chrome grille, as well as LED daytime running lights. Buyers can select from eight body colors and six alloy wheel designs (which range from 16 to 19-inches in diameter).

The car’s chrome flourishes are offered in dark chrome as well. The DS5 comes with an aviation-inspired roof, which has an overhead switchgear. There are nine upholstery options in cloth and leather available. The petrol THP 200 version is offered in Dstyle and Dsport trim and is coupled to a six-speed manual ‘box. It has CO2 emissions of 155g/km. It has a starting price of £25,900.

Based on the C-SportLounge concept car, the Citroën DS5, a large family car, was intended to go beyond the conceptual stage and into the actual production car phase.

Possessing a uniquely appealing and stylish design, the Citroën DS5’s silhouette resembles a station wagon infused with hatchback features and traces of the 19th century shooting-brake car body style, combined with the elegance and sophistication of modern day design and the latest technology.

Aerodynamically designed, the DS5 is masterfully sculpted, with straight and curvilinear accents incorporated into the well-proportioned and smooth, flowing body, which is certain to attract attention.

The DS5, immediately noticeable with its wide, double-chevron accented chrome-plated grille, its large air intakes and the sharp, stealth-like stares of its LED lights, unmistakably identifies the car as a member of the Citroen DS family.

DS5’s exterior profile radiates stylish elegance, smoothness and energetic vitality while its posh interiors complement the impressive exterior qualities of the car. The DS5’s body can be likened to a sculptural piece of art, becoming more dramatic with the effects of shades and shadows on its body. A pair of saber-shaped chrome accents, cast in one piece, are located at the edges of the bonnet and are immediately noticeable.

Each chrome accent runs from the inner tip of each headlamp towards the edge of the front windows and serves as the signature for the DS5. The shadows produced by the flanks and the rear wing seem to merge and fuse harmoniously under the rear spoiler’s curve, a distinct characteristic of the Citroën DS line.

Even when viewed from the rear, the Citroën DS5 stamps its class and intimidating presence on the road with a sporty and smart low-profile stance provided by its wide tracks, an iconic pair of exhaust pipes integrated into the rear bumper and six sets of well designed rear lights.

A balanced combination of pleasing aesthetics and efficient aerodynamics is the key design approach of the Citroën DS5. The side air intakes located on the front bumper create the visual impression of a wider front end aside from its function of diverting air flow around the wheels for a more stable ride at high speeds. Quarter lights are designed with integrated air deflectors which further contribute to the DS5’s excellent overall aerodynamic figures of a mere 0.29 Cx and a 0.69 m2 SCx.

Possessing a captivating and elegantly muscular character, the amazing DS5 is definitely designed to impress, with a wide array of outstanding and aesthetically pleasing yet highly functional features and refined detailing. The Citroën DS5 is most certainly built to rise above the rest.
