Mercedes-Benz officially introduced the all-new 2012 C 63 AMG model (offered as a 2011 model year in Europe) and announced that the official debut of the car will be made in March at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. As you may know already, Mercedes-Benz introduced a new 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine on the CLS 63 AMG and the CL 63 AMG and everyone expected it on the new C 63 AMG.
Regarding this issue, we have bad news: the car comes with the same engine found on the current model which means that it is powered by an AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine delivering 336 kW (457 hp), which means the same amount of power as the current model. Still, the total output can be increased to 358 kW (487 hp) with the optional AMG Performance package.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the new 2012 C 63 AMG has a fuel consumption of 12.0 l/100 km (Estate: 12.3 l/100 km), reduced by 10 percent when compared with the current model (1.4 litres (Estate: 1.3 litres) lower than that of the predecessor model). The CO2 emissions figure is now 280 (Estate: 288) grams per kilometer. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG introduces the new AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, which offers four driving modes as well as double-declutching and RACE START functions.
The "S", "S+" and "M" modes deliver increased agility through fast, responsive gear changes and higher revs. Gear changes in the "S+" and "M" modes take just 100 milliseconds. The Controlled Efficiency "C" maintains the lowest possible engine speed in order to deliver a better fuel consumption.
Regarding the performances, the naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine can push the car from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 4.5 seconds (Estate: 4.6 s) while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h or 155 mph. With the AMG Performance package, the performances are even better: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 4.4 seconds (Estate: 4.5 s).
Regarding the design, the new C 63 AMG comes with a new radiator grille, new headlights, a new AMG front apron with a lower cross member painted in high-gloss black, new daytime running lights, a new front bonnet, new clear-lens headlamps, a new rear end inspired by the SL 63 AMG and a new black diffuser insert with three pronounced diffuser fins.
The design is completed by the new 5 twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels, which are painted in titanium grey.
