At this year’s São Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil, Volkswagen unveiled the new Taigun Concept, a new compact SUV. Resembling the the very contemporary New Small Family by Volkswagen, the new Taigun is 3,859 mm long, 1,728 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall. Moreover, between the front and rear bumpers, the vehicle sports a wheelbase of 2,470 mm, which is large in relation to its exterior length.
Under the hood, we find a three-cylinder 1.0-liter TSI engine delivering 81 kW / 110 PS and 175 Nm pf torque at a low 1,500/min. With a total weight of just 985 kg, the new Taigun is able t accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 9.2 seconds and has a top speed of 186 km/h or 115 mph.
Nevertheless, the vehicle has a fuel consumption of just four and one-half litres of fuel per 100 km. In terms of design, the new Taigun carries the same design line seen on the latest Volkswagen vehicles and we can say that it’s front end is inspired by the bigger Cross Coupe Concept.
Painted in Seaside Blue, the Taigun features flared wings, rugged side trim panels as well as practical roof rails with integrated LED spotlights. The exterior design is completed by the 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/50 R17 tyres.
Inside, the Taigun features many storage surfaces and exceptionally good space conditions that generate very positive spacious feeling. Furthermore, we see a clean design that it is seen at the current Volkswagen models.
Linking the front and rear ends of the new VW Taigun SUV concept is a sculpted character line running under the side windows as it transitions into the C-pillars as it reaches the rear. Meanwhile, the lower body section of the concept features visually stunning yet rugged side trim panels that cover the side sills and wheel arches as well as lower part of the SUV’s bumpers.
The new VW Taigun SUV concept comes with short front and rear overhangs – measuring 708 mm and 681 mm, respectively – enabling it to look pleasantly attractive while allowing the optimization of its interior space. Moreover, the concept is provided with practical roof rails with integrated spotlights utilizing LED technology.
Up front, the new Taigun SUV concept is laden with lines marked by horizontal design elements. Its possibly off-road nature is underlined by the fact that its front and rear bumpers feature integrated metal underbody protection panel. At the rear, the concept is also defined by horizontal lines as well as by a two-section tailgate. The upper section extends down to the lower edge of the rear lights and then swings upward, while the lower section extends to the underbody protection and then swings downwards to the road.
On the other hand, the new Taigun SUV concept comes with an interior that well adapts to the modern urban world. Its cabin – with its design, surface feel and control layout -- will be surely liked by customers who are very familiar with the latest smartphones or tablets. In terms of cargo room, the new Taigun SUV concept offers a boot space that could accommodate 280 liters, which could be increased to 987 liters when the rear bench seat is folded down.
