2013 Bentley Continental GT V8 makes sensational flying debut above downtown Munich

In downtown Munich, a bright red 4.0 litre V8 Continental GT coupe from Bentley Motors was seen suspended under a helicopter, which brought it to a specially-designed podium at the top of a high rise complex. Bentley did this to attract attention in order to celebrate this model’s arrival. It’s clearly a success as this new vehicle certainly got the attention of everyone at rush hour as it was brought to the stylish SkyLounge, which is positioned in a glazed bridge between two skyscrapers.

Three hundred VIP guests were at this venue for the exclusive Bentley Continental V8 launch party. The organizer for this helicopter lift stunt is Klaus Becker, General Manager of Bentley Munich. He said that the company was inspired by Bentley’s iconic ‘Winged B’ emblem.

The new Bentley V8 engine offers a maximum power of 500 bhp (507 PS / 373 Kw) at 6000 rev/min and an outstanding peak torque of 660 Nm (487 lb ft) which is offered throughout the rev range from 1700 to 5000 rev/min. It is mated to a new close-ratio 8-speed automatic transmission that results to a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.6 seconds for the GT coupe (0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds) and a top speed of 188 mph (303 km/h).

The cabin of the Continental range not only shows luxury but also continues the visual redesign of the exterior. Its four seats reveal a more modern and straight-fluting pattern. However the Mulliner Driving Specification now has a small diamond and tighter quilting pattern that brings to mind the tailored British jacket that many gentlemen use. This feature though is included as standard on the GT Speed. While all of the driver controls are indeed new, the brand is offering a steering wheel that is more sport focused and ergonomic.

With this optional steering wheel are gear-shift paddles which are larger and offer tactile knurled metal embellishers. Aside from the console’s different elements being updated, there are new graphics and dials in the instrument that give it a more modern appearance. For the center console itself, it has a new gear lever surround in black ensuring that all of the driver controls are uniform.

The V8 and the V8 S versions though will offer in the middle of the seats in the rear a hidden storage compartment that can fit in electronic devices like mobile phones or iPads. It can even allow charging for said items. Of course, the changes to the interior can be appreciated even further with the LEDs inside. Aside from the various changes done on the standard specifications, the brand made sure to include a number of additional features, though they are offered as options.

Take for example the GT Speed and the GT W12 that can now be fitted with the semi-aniline and softer leather not only for the cushions of the seat but the backrests as well. The use of this material ensures a more natural feel in addition to offering more luxury and comfort. It also shows that this range utilizes leather of the highest quality rarely seen in the automotive world.

Two colors for the leather are offered as well for the 2015 model year of the Continental lineup and these are Camel and Shortbread. With the GT W12 and the GT Speed, the GT V8 S will offer Alcantara with its color complementing all of the 17 colors made available for the leather in the interior. WiFi is now offered inside ensuring that handheld devices now have connectivity.
