General Motors plans to launch an all-new Chevrolet TrailBlazer, its mid-sized SUV, in Thailand in early 2012. It will also be launched in other countries in Southeast Asia, in the Middle East and in South America. While the Chevrolet TrailBlazer will be exposed overseas, it may not be given a similar opportunity in the U.S. as GM officials haven’t made any mention of plans to offer it in the country.
The SUV model was offered in the U.S. for a decade but it was phased out in 2009. The all-new TrailBlazer is set to have its unveiling on Nov. 10-14 at the Dubai International Motor Show.
The model will use GM's new rear-drive, body-on-frame platform for mid-sized trucks. It shares this platform with the next-generation Chevy Colorado pickup that recently had its launching in Thailand. GM has plans to later on produce and sell Colorado in the U.S. Jim Hall, the principal of automotive consulting firm 2953 Analytics Inc. in suburban Detroit, said that the new TrailBlazer isn’t likely to have a natural spot in Chevrolet’s U.S. lineup.
For now, the TrailBlazer is positioned between the Chevy Equinox and Traverse crossovers but this may change if the Equinox becomes smaller when GM updates the popular crossover, which is expected in 2015 at the earliest.
When asked about the likelihood of the model being offered in the U.S., Hall said, "I'd never say never." He explained that it’s possible that it would “find a sweet spot in the market." GM said in a statement that the new TrailBlazer will have the hauling and towing capability of an SUV but it will have crossover’s ride comfort and efficiency.
Chevrolet Trailblazer’s newest model will finally be on sale worldwide starting in June 2012. For sure, the brand’s tagline “haul-anything, go-anywhere” will get everyone more excited.
The much-anticipated concept SUV was first showcased in the Middle East at the 2011 Dubai International Motorshow. Though technically, the new Chevrolet Trailblazer is yet to be unveiled in Thailand this coming June 2012 at the Bangkok International Motor Show.
The new midsize truck’s technical blueprint is taken primarily from GM’s body-on-frame design. The new Trailblazer aims to deliver outstanding off-road performance and superior driving dynamics for highway and city driving as well as riding comfort for everyone on-board.
Chevrolet Trailblazer’s highly impressive interior consists of three-row tumble and fold-flat seating to provide ample space when necessary. This element is the ultimate selling point on most midsize SUVs in its class.
The new Trailblazer will be offered in 4-wheel and 2-wheel drive configurations. Chevy’s latest SUV will be powered by GM’s latest 4-cylinder Duramax turbo diesel engines to provide highly efficient power and torque figures.
Martin Apfel (GM President for Southeast Asia and Chevrolet Sales Thailand) disclosed that the launch of the new Trailblazer will significantly put Chevrolet among the world’s fastest selling SUVs. He also mentioned that the manufacturing facility in Rayong would be used in the production of the new pickup. Apfel also considers the name Trailblazer as very appropriate as it is set to conquer the global market. And indeed, the new Trailblazer is built to last and is just what we need at the moment.
