The updated Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder will start arriving in showrooms from late November, soon after the Coupé is released. Its aesthetic modifications are similar to those seen on the Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé at the recently held Paris Motor Show. The appearance of the Gallardo Spyder is somewhat more angular and more aggressive owing to several sharp, triangular shapes in the front bumper.
This design is more overtly expressed at the rear. The other revisions include big air intakes ahead of the front wheels. Its standard-fit alloys also have a new design.
The 19-inch ‘Apollo’ wheels are available in black and polished metal finishes. Just like the Coupé, customers can order the Spyder along with a Style Package. Gloss black paint is used on the front and rear grilles, underside of the front spoiler and parts of the rear trim. More customization options are available through the ‘Ad Personam’ program.
For a sports car, there’s a definite benefit with having a lightweight design as it would benefit dynamics. Most vehicles use steel but aluminum is definitely not just lighter but stiffer. This is why Lamborghini decided to use aluminum for the Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder’s bodyshell. Given that the new engine is lighter, this new model delivers a dry weight of 3,417.2 lbs (1,550 kg).
This makes the two-seater lighter by 44 lbs (20 kg) when compared to the previous model. Overall, the design of this latest offering from Lamborghini makes use of the method known as “spaceframe construction.” What this means is that in making the bodyshell, the company made use of extruded profiles and nodes in cast aluminum to form the frame. These are then incorporated with form-fitted and friction-locked panels composed of aluminum. As mentioned earlier, the use of aluminum meant that it would be light while showing excellent torsional stiffness.
This also meant safety quality was exceptional. All of these served as the foundation of the LP560-4’s remarkable handling characteristics. Further, the underbody panel is now more aerodynamic and has been included as part of the vehicle’s overall design to help with the structural stiffness. In addition, this model also puts in components that have been created to specifically increase the stiffness within the vehicle’s space frame.
The reason is that there is a need to compensate for the lack of a fixed roof. Aside from having a bodyshell that makes use of aluminum, the brand sure that the new Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder would be equipped with the highest levels when it comes to passive safety. In fact, this new model is able to meet the requirements for pedestrian protection even if such rules have yet to be made mandatory. Even if the Spyder does have a low height, it remains to be able to offer a good amount of space for the interior even if the top has been closed. For the sports seats inside, customers will get to select between the fine leather upholstery and Alcantara. The seats do not only look good but offer excellent function which is to provide support and a strong hold. Being a sports car, the seats of the Spyder have been mounted in a low position. At the back of the seats is extra luggage space which complements the luggage compartment on the front with a capacity of 110 liters.
