The all-new 2013 Lexus LS was finally unveiled and as expected, the LS line-up will include four models: LS 460, LS 460L, LS 600hL hybrid and LS 460 F SPORT. Just like the previous model, the LS 460 and LS 460L are available in RWD and AWD while the LS Hybrid is available with a full-time AWD system.
Regarding the first-ever LS 460 F SPORT, this model will combine an aggressive exterior with a unique sport interior featuring F SPORT seats with larger bolsters, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters and genuine aluminum trim.
Moreover, the car will be lower (0.4 inch) as it comes with a Torsen limited slip rear differential (RWD model), Brembo six-piston caliper brakes and 19” forged wheels wrapped in summer or all-season tires.
Regarding the design, the 2013 Lexus LS comes with a new spindle grille that gives the it a greater road presence and stronger brand identity. The interior was also redesigned and comes with modern refinement with intuitive technology. Furthermore, we find the Advanced Illumination System (AIS), an all-LED interior lighting system as well as the Lexus Climate Concierge that offers maximum comfort for every LS occupant.
Offered as standard, the navigation system is displayed on a 12.3-inch, split-screen, high-resolution multi-media display. The Remote Touch was also upgraded and it is offered as standard on all models, enabling a smooth, intuitive control of many vehicle systems. The Lexus Enform with App Suite is also present and provides a new level of connectivity and information management.
A simple way to describe the whole lineup of the 2013 Lexus LS is that it has been refined so that the style would be both new and dynamic. The reason for this is that this lineup is expected to represent the brand’s new face. The spindle grille for instance has been made more aggressive, ensuring that the LS not only has better road presence but strengthens the identity of the brand.
The new LS lineup also shows the various enhancements done with regards to the handling, responsiveness, and driving dynamics. On the inside, the design shows it is more driver-focused but this has been fused with a number of intuitive technology and modern refinement. For example, there is the Lexus Climate Concierge which ensures maximum comfort for all the occupants.
Another example is the Advanced Illumination System or AIS. This is an interior lighting system that uses LEDs and that lights up to greet any occupants going near and then slowly fades as the driver starts the vehicle. There are also a number of systems that can be customized, all of which use various sensors in order to manage not just the cabin’s temperature but even that of the heated steering wheel or the climate control seats.
It ensures that each occupant inside gets the temperature that they want. Because the rigidity of its body has been increased, it has improved the stability and thereby provides a ride that is truly comfortable. Meanwhile new shock absorbers, which are frequency dependent, have been installed and this enhances the bounce control and the pitch control. This gives the LS a flatter ride and one that appears to hug the road more.
Other changes include the steering which now has better turn-in response and accuracy. Even the braking system was improved so that the pedal offers a greater feel while allowing for immediate power. Safety features were improved as well and the new LS now has one of the most advanced systems with the Pre-Collision Safety (A-PCS) system that comes with the Collision Avoidance Assist.
This particular system was designed to mainly assist the driver in avoiding, or at the very least mitigating, any collision not just with other vehicles but with pedestrians as well. It does so on a wide range of speed. If the LS is driving at most 24 mph, the system aids the vehicle in avoiding any potential accidents by bringing the car to a complete stop.
