2013 Mercedes-Benz ML 500 4MATIC

Article by Christian A., on July 11, 2012

The third generation of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class made a lasting impact on the SUV segment, similar to what its predecessors had done. This model was launched in September 2011. The added V8 petrol version is now part of the range in the shape of the ML 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY. This equipment package is improved further with new safety features like COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST (CPA).

Order books opened on June 22 for the new ML 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY, which will start to arrive at dealerships in autumn 2012. The new ML 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY is powered by a turbocharged BlueDIRECT V8 direct injection petrol engine and provides excellent performance together with the highest level of efficiency.

The new model has better fuel consumption figures than its predecessor by as much as 16%. At the same time, its performance is better. The V8 engine’s output is increased from a considerably smaller displacement (4663 instead of 5461 cc).

The ML 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY currently produces 300 kW (408 hp) rather than 285 kW (388 hp). Its torque was raised from 530 to 600 Nm and is offered at a much lower engine speed of 1600 rpm. It was able to achieve the high output even with its reduced displacement because of two exhaust gas turbochargers – one for each bank of cylinders.

The new V8 engine has innovations such as a more developed, third-generation direct fuel injection system with spray-guided combustion and piezo injectors in combination with multi-spark ignition. The exceptional fuel economy is supported not just by the V8 model's state-of-the-art engine technology but also by a complete package of BlueEFFICIENCY measures.

Aside from the ECO start/stop function which is standard, these measures will have the seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. All models from model year 2013 are impressive with new equipment details. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST (CPA) with adaptive Brake Assist as standard could enhance active safety even further.

It comes with either a stylish set of 5-twin-spoke 48.3 cm (19") alloy wheels found in the ML 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY delivery package or the all-new 5-spoke 53.3 cm (21") alloy wheels from Mercedes-Benz Accessories. Two shiny new paint finishes are available: cavansite blue and cinnabar red. For a better driving experience in urban traffic, the M-Class can come with Active Parking Assist as an option.

This electronic co-pilot automatically looks for an appropriate parking space and it steers during the parking process. To raise operational comfort, it comes with the electric servo-locking mechanism as an option. This instantly closes all doors and the boot lid. Pricing starts at €75,029.
