Shelby American is offering two new tuning packages for the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. The coupe and convertible models could get the upgrades. However, the Super Snake packages will be given to only 500 cars. What Shelby American does is give the standard 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 some black or white stripes, either black or silver 20-inch Shelby wheels, a new fiberglass Shelby hood, and a smattering of red embroidered Shelby logos on the headrests and floor mats.
A two-tone leather interior is optional. Among the mechanical improvements are a short-shift kit, new suspension components, a louder Borla exhaust, and Wilwood brakes with six-piston front calipers and cross-drilled brake discs. The factory 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is already powerful with an output of 662 hp from its supercharged 5.8-liter V-8 engine. Still, it got an upgrade.
Consumers can decide to add a new Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharger, together with improved radiators and cooling parts that raise the power to 850 hp. Shelby American said that this output is incredible but it wants to assure buyers that this vehicle can be legally driven on the streets and that it uses normal gasoline.
The package to get the 662-hp version is available for $28,995 while that of the 850-hp version costs $39,995. Of course, you still have to buy the new 2013 Shelby GT500, which could set the customers back by $54,995 for the coupe and $59,995 for the convertible. Destination charges are included in these prices.
Design improvements for 2013 include trademark lighting with LED bars that demand for attention in the back and front. The rocker panels flowing on the vehicle blends with the whole exterior as they are now in body-color, giving it a premium appearance. Also, the back end has the latest shiny black panel between the taillights and a diffuser that wraps around a new quad-tip exhaust.
Two new sets of forged-aluminum wheels are provided in the 2013 Shelby GT500. There’s also a unique wheel for clients who want to customize their cars. The 20-inch back and 19-inch front wheels come with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G: 2 tires available for any configuration. Looking totally new with the dark finish and improved spoke designs, the wheels look even stronger and aggressive but provide the benefit of being super light.
To celebrate two decades of SVT, badging will be utilized all over the exterior and the interior of the vehicle to commemorate years of performance cars. The official release of SVT was in the 1992 Chicago Auto Show with the launch of the SVT F-150 Lightning and 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra. The 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra gave a 235 HP 5.0 L V8 engine, proving how cars have immensely evolved through the years.
Significant progress has been made in aerodynamics to guarantee that the Shelby GT500 has the right amount of downforce for efficient performance at any speed. Utilizing innovative computational fluid dynamics (CFD), engineers were able to identify perfectly where the air flows, to maximize cooling efficiency. The outcome is a vehicle that tracks better and feels more stable even at higher speeds.
