The Premium trim level of Subaru’s 2013 XV Crosstrek has a starting price of $22,745 (which includes a $750 destination charge) while the Limited trim is priced at $25,245. Subaru presented the XV Crosstrek at the New York auto show. Subaru vice president Thomas Doll had said back then that they located a slot for a small Subaru crossover in its lineup.
Subaru is confident that the off-road-capable XV Crosstrek can fill this gap. The XV Crosstrek is based on the Subaru Impreza hatchback but to make it more rugged, its suspension was raised and it now has butch body cladding. It is basically the successor to the two-tone Outback Sport, which was offered some years ago.
The XV Crosstrek Premium is equipped with plenty of standard equipment such as a sound system that is Bluetooth and iPod-capable, cargo hooks, air conditioning, heated seats, roof rails, among others.
The Limited model will have automatic headlights, automatic climate control, a backup camera, and leather seats. A moonroof and a navigation system are optional.
Fitted on the two versions as standard equipment is a 2.0-liter flat-four engine that delivers 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque, distributed via Subaru’s all-wheel-drive system.
The XV Crosstrek Premium is available with a five-speed manual transmission while a continuously variable transmission is optional. The Limited model is offered just with the CVT. The pricing of the XV Crosstrek puts it between the bigger Forester and the Impreza, on which it was based.
2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback is priced from $18,745, but a Premium model that has the same features as the base XV Crosstrek is priced at $20,045, which means that the Impreza is priced $2700 lower than the XV.
2012 Subaru Forester has a starting price of $21,370, even if the Premium trim level costs $24,070, or $1325 higher than the XV Crosstrek Premium.
The body structure of the Subaru Ring-Shaped Frame Reinforcement has been tested and proven for its safety. To provide a wide rear and front seat coverage, the Subaru XV Crosstrek packs its safety features with an essential driver's knee airbag along with side curtain airbags and standard airbags for the anterior pelvis and torso. Moreover, the front airbag in the passenger seat has a shell-type with a center groove design, thus protecting the passenger from impact during deployment.
Traction control and stability are combined with the VDC or the Vehicle Dynamics Control and work to improve the functionality of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Brake Assist system is also integrated with the Electronic Brake-force Distribution through the Anti-lock Brake System with a 4-wheel disc. An upgraded Brake Override system also guarantees to cut the engine power when the brake and accelerator are pressed at the same time.
Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
The 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek models are equipped with two various types of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive framework. Operating with a five-speed transmission, it uses a locking center differential that efficiently distributes car power from front to end.
