The all-new 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet made its debut today but it is no surprise as the German manufacturer announced it on Friday. Compared to the outgoing model, the 2014 A3 Cabriolet is now longer (from 4.24 to 4.42 meters), wider (from 1.77 to 1.79 meters) and it has a longer wheelbase (2.58 to 2.60 meters).
The height was reduced by 15 millimeters and the luggage capacity grew by 60 liters. Featuring a soft cloth top that is stretched over a lightweight kinematic mechanism made of magnesium-steel, the A3 can be transformed in a cabriolet in less than 18 seconds even at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). The new soft top is offered in Black as standard and features a glass rear window.
Still, if you don’t like it Black, Audi offers it in Gray or Brown and its roofliner is available in black and lunar silver. For the Ambiente trim line, the wind deflector is offered as standard. Under the hood, we find a choice three engines: two TFSI engines that produce 140 hp and 180 hp from 1.4 and 1.8 liters of engine displacements and a 2.0 TDI that develops 150 hp.
Other engines will follow ranging from 1.6 TDI with 110 hp to the 2.0 TFSI, which will be used by the new Audi S3 Cabriolet with 300 hp. The 2014 A3 Cabriolet powered by the 1.4 TFSI (140 hp) accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.1 seconds.
Fuel consumption is just 5.0 liters per 100 km (47 US mpg) and CO2 emissions are 114 g/km. The 1.4 TFSI and 2.0 TDI are paired with a manual six-speed transmission, while the 1.8 TFSI is offered with a seven-speed S Tronic.
Exquisite lines, spotless surfaces and typically adamant quality, also mark out the interior design of the brand-new Audi A3 Cabriolet. The instrument panel is lean and low, with a softly bended frontal section and a center console slanted somewhat towards the driver. The huge, round air vents with their ‘jet design’, the electrically reversible 5.8-inch color monitor accompanied by the Driver's Information System with efficiency and rest recommendation assistants, the control panel for the air conditioning system and the three-dimensional trim strips help to enhance the air of premium class elegance. So do features like the discretionary lighting package which for the first time incorporates a touch-sensitive switch for the reading lights.
The cabin allows enough room for four grownups. Meanwhile, the seatbacks of the two rear seats can be folded down to generate a wide through-load area. The steering wheel and seats are fresh designs, and the brand-new electro-mechanical parking brake is run by a button on the center console. The seats are done in either cloth or a mixture of cloth and leather, with full leather and an Alcantara/leather mix available on the choices list, depending on which of the SE, Sport and S line trim levels is favoured by UK consumers.
Highly enhanced discretionary assistance systems can likewise be customized to make everyday life in the A3 Cabriolet more comfortable. They incorporated adaptive cruise control, Audi active lane assist, Audi side assist, park assist with selective display, camera-based traffic sign/speed limit recognition, and different feature levels of the Audi pre sense safety system.
