2014 Audi S3 Saloon UK pricing announced

Article by Anita Panait, on December 11, 2013

There will soon be four all-wheel-drive Audi S quattros sporting 300PS of power -- the new S3 Saloon and the three-door and five-door Sportback and the upcoming S3 Cabriolet. The latest ‘three-box’ version of the latest Audi S quattro Series could now be availed for ordering starting from £33,240 OTR, with the first deliveries to the United Kingdom to take place in March 2014.

The new S3 Saloon is powered by a long-stroke 2.0-litre TFSI engine that shares only its 1,984cc displacement with its predecessor, providing max power of 300PS at 5,500rpm, and max torque between 1,800 and 5,500 rpm. When paired to the S tronic twin-clutch transmission, the engine allows the S3 Saloon to accelerate from zero to 4.9 seconds to 62mph to reach a limited 155mph top speed (5.3 seconds with the manual transmission).

The car has combined fuel economy that stands at 40.9mpg for the automatic, and 40.4mpg for the manual. This four-cylinder engine features new technologies that allow it to boast improved output and economy -- use of both direct and indirect injection; integration of the exhaust manifold into the cylinder head; and use of innovative thermal management for faster warm-up.

It features two balancer shafts that rotate at twice the speed of the crankshaft optimise refinement. However, an electromechanical actuator in the bulkhead only allows the right amount of sound to reach the cabin. Likewise, the exhaust system features a sound flap that opens at certain engine speed ranges to provide greater sound depth.

New Audi S3 Sedan takes advantage of the premium brand’s expertise in lightweight construction, allowing it to offer a suitable package for outstanding dynamics. This premium four-door employs ultra high-strength steels in several parts of the occupant cell as well as aluminum for its engine bonnet. When fitted with a manual transmission, Audi S3 Sedan has a curb weight of just 1,430 kilograms (3,152.61 pounds).

The dynamism of the Audi S3 Sedan also oozes out visually, thanks to its athletic and confident appearance. Its body is visually stretched, as a result of the elegant interaction of the flat engine hood, curved surfaces, precisely drawn lines, and the flat roof arch. Its dynamism is also apparent on its dimensions as the Audi S3 Sedan measures 4,469 mm (14.66 ft.) in length, 1,796 mm (5.80 ft.) in width and 1,392 mm (4.57 ft.) in height, with a long wheelbase of 2,631 mm (8.63 ft.).

Being an S-model, the Audi S3 Sedan is a high performance machine, as evident visually on its aluminum-look S-specific Singleframe grille and double horizontal bars. This grille features matt platinum gray inserts and is bordered by a chrome frame surrounds. The bumper, meanwhile, features air inlets filled with aluminum-look double ribs and honeycomb inserts. These air inlets are framed with flared edges. LED headlights are optional for the new Audi S3 Sedan.

On the flanks, the new Audi S3 Sedan reveals aluminum-look exterior mirror housings and sill strips. The rear end, meanwhile, is home to a redesigned bumper, and a subtle spoiler lip located on top of the trunk lid. The rear end also features a platinum gray diffuser with an aluminum-look double bar and four ribs that surround the four oval tailpipes with chrome tips. LED technology is mostly used for the rear lights of the Audi S3 Sedan.

The new Audi S3 Sedan could be finished in any of the 12 available exterior paints, including the exclusive crystal-effect colors Panther black and Sepang blue. Identifying the sedan as an S-model are S3 badges on the front and rear ends.
