2014 BMW X1 Exclusive Sport Edition arrives in Japan

Article by Christian A., on July 15, 2014

After receiving the Z4 sDrive 20i GT Spirit, Japan receives yet another special edition model, this time focused on the X1. Dubbed BMW X1 Exclusive Sport, the new edition is based on the M-Sport model, which means it comes with new bumper, side sills as well as a new rear bumper with integrated air diffuser. In addition, we find a chrome line exterior and satin aluminum roof rails.

Inside, the Nevada leather upholstery is completed by the satin aluminum trim. As standard, the X1 Exclusive Sport Edition comes with the parking package that includes a rear camera and the Park Distance Controller, but also with the iDrive navigation package which includes the HDD navigation system and an 8.8-inch wide display control as well as USB audio intergace, hands-free telephone system and Speech Control.

As an option, BMW offers the electric panoramic glass roof and the Black Sapphire metallic paint. The X1 Exclusive Sport is offered as standard in White or Alpine III colours. BMW will offer the new edition in two versions, the X1 sDrive20i Exclusive Sport and the X1 xDrive20i Exclusive Sport.

Both versions are powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder DOHC petrol engine with TwinPower Turbo technology that generates 184 hp (134 kW) and 270 Nm of torque. Both engines are offered with the 8-speed automatic transmission.

So, if you are interested in buying one, you’d better know that this model is offered only in right-hand drive specification and only 160 units will be available. The X1 sDrive20i Exclusive Sport costs 5,190,000 yens ($51,110), while the X1 xDrive20i Exclusive Sport is priced at 5,450,000 yens ($53,670).

For the first time, BMW is offering an individualisation program that is available on the X1’s interior and exterior design, with the BMW Lines. This is available as an alternative to the basic trim level, where customers could match design and equipment features. On one hand, the BMW xLine focuses on the versatility of the BMW X1, and on the other hand, the BMW Sport Line emphasises on the model’s agility and dynamics.

As for the design, BMW Lines can highlight the car’s sportiness, elegance, and versatility. These include typical BMW proportions, expressive surfaces, and exclusive BMW X design cues that shape the appearance of the BMW X1. Things like a stretched bonnet, long wheelbase and larger passenger compartment highlight the car’s features. The lower part of the body like the muscular wheel arches had been blacked out to indicate the BMW X model’s versatility and sturdiness.

The BMW X1 conveys a powerful stance that also sets apart BMW’s Sport Activity Vehicles. Apart from the inserts on both ends of the car, as well as the side skirts covers, circular fog lamps have been added under the headlights too. Moreover, customers can now choose from a wider range of exterior colours to paint their BMW X1. Overall, the new touches make the car look sportier too.
