Audi of America officially announced today at 2014 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) a new partnership with AT&T that will offer U.S. Audi drivers the first-ever-in-vehicle 4G LTE data connection with the introduction of the 2015 A3 family.
Moreover, Audi will become the first carmaker to offer a Mobile Share data plan option to AT&T wireless customers who want to add their vehicle to their existing smartphone or tablet data plan. For those who don’t know, the new Audi A3 family will feature the most advanced version of Audi connect including picture navigation, as well as read-aloud news headlines, Facebook and Twitter alerts, more than 7,000 Web radio stations and personalized RSS news feeds.
The new Audi connect 4G LTE service will allow faster Google Earth and Google Street View enhancements to Audi MMI navigation plus. Furthermore, faster downloads will be available as well as high-definition video streaming for up to eight devices used by passengers over the in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot. An accompanying mobile app will allow advanced functionality between the MMI system and smartphones.
“With the introduction of the new A3 family Audi is putting the most advanced technology into the compact luxury segment,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. “Offering drivers a 4G LTE connection will provide the fastest in-vehicle connection available and significantly enhance the infotainment experience.”
“AT&T has the nation’s fastest and most reliable LTE network and this new relationship with Audi allows us to drastically improve the in-car experience,” said Glenn Lurie, President, AT&T Emerging Enterprises and Partnerships Organization. “It’s exciting to think about the Audi A3 family of cars throughout the U.S. running 4G LTE-powered wireless hotspots and more through Audi connect.”
Audi of America LLC operates as a subsidiary of Audi AG. Incorporated in 1978 and headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, Audi of America owns and operates Audi brand car dealerships in the US. On the other hand, Audi AG -- based in Zwickau, Germany -- is a member of part of the Volkswagen Group and is engaged in designing, engineering, production, marketing and distribution of luxury vehicles. Its origin can be traced back to a number of companies, such as Wanderer, NSU, A. Horch & Cie and Audi Automobilwerke GmbH Zwickau.
In 1932, Audi merged with Horch, DKW, and Wanderer, to form Auto Union AG, Chemnitz – with the four interlinked rings found in the modern Audi badge representing each of these companies.
