At the 2014 Madrid Auto Show, Lexus unveiled the IS 25 Anniversario, a model that celebrates company’s 25th anniversary. The new model was exclusively designed for the Spanish market and Lexus will only make 25 units of this special edition. If you live in Spain and want one, you’d better know that the IS 25 Anniversario is available in two versions: 300h Hybrid and a V6-powered model.
The Lexus IS 300h comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine as well as with an electric motor, while the IS 250 is powered by a 2.5-liter V6. As you can see from the photos, the new special edition of the Lexus IS comes with a new exterior kit developed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), which consists of a new front lip spoiler new side sills, and a new rear spoiler.
Lexus also added a carbon fiber front hood, a carbon fiber roof as well as a new rear trunk spoiler made of carbon fiber. The exterior design is completed by the 19-inch Lexus F Sport wheels wrapped in high-performance Bridgestne Potenza tires.
Inside, we find perforated leather upholstery with white F Sport inserts, a red TRD Start button and the commemorative numbered plaque. Moreover, the Lexus IS 25 Anniversario comes with a new Brembo Brake kit on the front axle, that features 360 mm vented brake discs and 6-piston calipers.
On the rear axle, the vehicle features high-performance dampers developed by Yamaha. Lexus Spain also announced that they will offer a similar kit for existing IS owners, which will cost around 10,000 euros.
The new Lexus IS comes with a dramatic design, tight sporty proportions as well as sleek surfacing – all mirroring the progress -- in terms of driving performance and dynamic capabilities -- of the luxury carmaker’s new premium compact sedan.
With an overall length of 4,665 mm overall, the new Lexus IS is 80 mm longer than its predecessors, with a wheelbase and front overhang extended by 70 mm (at 2,800 mm) and 10 mm, respectively. Furthermore, the new Lexus IS is also 10 mm wider than its predecessor.
Just like the new generation of the Lexus GS, ES and LS, the all-new IS dons the new Lexus spindle grille, allowing the new premium compact sedan to be elegantly aggressive. It also delivers a powerful road presence and exudes a stronger brand identity. The new Lexus IS comes with a new pop-up hood design that allows the premium compact sedan to have the lowest possible vehicle front profile, while still optimizing pedestrian impact protection.
Below this hood is a spindle grille flanked by headlamp clusters now positioned higher than the grille. The new headlamp is emphasized by Lexus’ signature L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) placed below the cluster.
When viewed from the sides, the strong horizontal beltline of the new IS offers an impression of larger rear tires as well as a lower center of gravity. This also allows the mass of the cabin to seemingly be focused to the rear, with weight visually applied to the rear tires. From the lower body, a crease line rises and flows through the rear wheel arch and into the rear lamp clusters.
Further enhancing the clean coupe-like lines of the new IS premium compact sedan is a rear wheel arch hemming treatment that makes the tires mode prominent; the tires are now positioned 5 mm further outboard and closer to the wheel arch. The roof and side members are joined by a laser-brazed roof structure sans any roof drip molding. [Photos and info source: AutoNocion]
