MINI has finally revealed the 2014 MINI Hatch and announced that it will carry a price tag of £15,300 OTR in the United Kingdom. 2014 MINI Cooper D Hatch costs £16,450, while the 2013 MINI Cooper S is priced at £18,650. The new model is reminiscent to the original MINI as it comes with traditional styling cues such as the hexagonal contour of the radiator grille, circular headlights fitted with LED technology, ‘side scuttle’ indicator surrounds, upright rear light clusters as well as a black lower body character line.
Besides the new design, five new exterior colours have been added, while the roof and exterior mirror caps can be finished in a contrasting color such as black or white as a no-cost option. Other touches include black or white bonnet stripes. The 2014 MINI Cooper is 3,821 mm long (2014 MINI Cooper S is 3,850 mm), 1,727 mm wide and 1,414 mm tall. Comparing it with the outgoing model, it is 98 mm longer, 44 mm wider and 7 mm taller.
The wheelbase has been extended by 28 mm, while the track width has been enlarged at the front by 42 mm and at the rear by 34 mm. Inside, the hatch offers room for up to four occupants and their luggage.
The front seats have been given a wider adjustment range, while the base has been lengthened by 23 mm. MINI offers a choice of fabric or leather finishes or a combination of both. At the heart of the design changes for the dashboard is a new display and operating concept, illustrated by the instrument on the steering column. The horizontal structure of the cockpit, linked to circular and elliptical details, remains, but has evolved to take on a more sophisticated form.
The 2014 MINI Hatch is available with an optional colour screen up to 8.8-inches showing vehicle functions, infotainment, navigation and MINI Connected services. Selection of these functions is performed via a choice of two new controllers, the MINI Controller or MINI Touch Controller, fitted in the centre console which come in conjunction with MINI Visual Boost Radio or the MINI Navigation System.
Keyless-go is now standard across the MINI Hatch range. The 2014 MINI Cooper Hatch is available with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine developing 134 bhp and 220 Nm (230 Nm with overboost) of torque. This model promises a fuel consumption of just 4.4 l/100 km.
The 2014 MINI Cooper D has a three-cylinder 1.5-liter diesel engine with 114 bhp and 270 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox is available as standard, but as an option MINI offers a six-speed automatic transmission. This model promises a fuel consumption of just 3.5 l/100 km. The 2014 MINI Cooper S has a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 189 bhp and 280 Nm (306 Nm with overboost) of torque.
This model promises a fuel consumption of just 5.6 l/100 km. The new MINI Cooper Hatch and MINI Cooper D Hatch ride on 15-inch forged light alloy wheels, which have low weight and excellent aerodynamics. The MINI Cooper S Hatch is fitted with 16-inch light alloy wheels as standard. Rims up to 18 inches in diameter are available as optional extras. [source: MINI]
