SsangYong has released the official details about the launch of its new Rexton W SUV. Slated to start selling in the UK in the winter, the Rexton W will have a starting price of £21,995, increasing to £25,320 for a top-spec model. It is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that offers an output of 153bhp and 266lb ft of torque.

This engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive can be engaged by the driver. The Rexton W utilizes double wishbone and coil spring suspension at the front, and a five-link rigid axle with coil springs at the rear. Premium materials are used by the inside of the Rexton W, creating an environment that SsangYong claims is "extremely practical in everyday use.”

It is a seven-seater and its rearmost row of seats is stored under the floor. It has the following standard equipment: cruise control, air conditioning, a leather steering wheel and a stereo with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity. What the higher-spec EX model gets are an electric driver's seat, leather upholstery and rear parking sensors.

This new car is described by SsangYong as a “serious” off-roader that has the urban cruiser’s equipment and creature comforts. The new model is available with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. This is already the third generation of the Rexton, which first became available in 2001. This car is expected to compete with large SUVs such as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Land Cruiser.
