If last year we saw the Golf GTI Cabrio Austria, which followed the GTI Black Dynamic or the Golf GTI Street, for this year’s Worthersee festival Volkswagen apprentices unveiled the Golf GTI Wolfsburg Edition. The new vehicle is a two-door model painted in Absolute Red with décor strips in Negro Magico Black.
Under the hood, there is an upgraded 2.0 TSI engine taked from the Golf R2 that generates 380 hp (270 kW). This unique vehicle comes with a carbon air box and a hand-welded stainless steel exhaust system featuring a vacuum valve control that allows the volume of the engine sound to be regulated.
Regarding the design, the car features hand-crafted high-gloss black attachments such as one-offs spoilers, claw-type inserts on the front bumper, door sills, as well as a new rear spoiler with additional flaps and roof edge spoiler.
Seen from the side, the stripes are reminiscent of the first-generation Golf GTI, while the special eyecatcher is the Wolfsburg Skyline in absolute red.
The Wolfsburg Skyline features eight Wolfsburg landmarks, Schloss Wolfsburg, Planetarium, the Car Towers at Autostadt, Phaeno, Autostadt Customer Center, Volkswagen Arena (the VfL Wolfsburg soccer stadium), the Volkswagen power plant and headquarters building.
Same theme is continued inside the vehicle where we find a hand-crafted center console with integrated, stowable iPhone Docking Station and a one-off air pressure display produced using a 3D printer.
In addition, the Wolfsburg Skyline is present on the door trims using a special embossing technique, as well as a 2,179 W sound system with 11 on-board speakers. A monobloc amplifier with integrated LED lightning is found in the boot, together with the subwoofer in the left module and a PlayStation with 24-inch LED-LCD TV set. [source: Volkswagen]
