Earlier today we revealed you the all-new 2015 BMW 2-Series Convertible (F23) but we didn’t tell you anything about the most interesting addition of the lineup: the M235i Convertible. That’s right, the sporty coupe just received a convertible version and can be yours for a price of $48,650 including the $950 destination charges.
Just like the M235i Coupe, the 2015 BMW M235i Convertible (F23) is powered by the same 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology that pumps out 326 hp (240 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.
The engine pushes the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds when equipped with a manual transmission and in 5.0 seconds when using the automatic transmission, while top speed is limited at 250 km/h or 155 mph.
Fuel consumption is 8.5 l/100 km with the manual transmission and 7.9 l/100 km with the automatic transmission, while CO2 emissions are 199 g/km (184 g/km - automatic). Just like the standard model, the M235i Convertible uses a new electrically powered fabric top that opens and closes in 20 seconds and at speeds of up to 50 km/h or 30 mph.
As standard, the fabric top is offered in black, while as an option the vehicle can receive a new one in Anthracite with silver effect or Brown with silver effect.
When it comes to design, there is nothing changed and the M235i Convertible features the stylish muscular design lines as well as the sporty interior. The new vehicle will make its world debut next month at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, while the first deliveries are expected to reach the dealerships later this year.
BMW M235i Convertible offers remarkable engine performance properly translated into true driving dynamics, as made possible by precision-tuned M custom chassis technology. BMW M tailored fit a number of systems – like the bespoke suspension and damping systems as well as special front-axle elastokinematics to the performance characteristics of the six-cylinder engine. These elements were also adapted to the specific requirements of the car’s open body style. As standard, the new M235i Convertible is provided with specially configured M Sport brakes and variable sport steering.
BMW M has the M235i Convertible, as standard, ride on exclusive 18-inch M alloy wheels shod in mixed tires (sizes 225/40 R18 at the front and 245/35 R18 at the rear). These high-grip tires were especially developed to for optimal transmission of drive forces to the road. Customers may also avail of 19-inch forged BMW M Performance alloy wheels from the Original BMW Accessories range.
The BMW M235i Convertible could also be specified with the available BMW M Performance limited-slip differential, which is basically a mechanical rear differential featuring an integral torque-sensing differential lock. When the Driving Stability Control system (DSC) is switched off, this torque-sensitive limited-slip differential could vary the drive-torque split between the rear wheels to deliver optimized traction.
In response to torque differences between driven wheels, the differential initiates locking action to transfer more drive power to the wheel with more traction, thereby reducing slip at the wheel with less traction. With this process, the differential efficiently translates engine power into propulsion, allowing for a sharper and more dynamic acceleration.
