BMW unveiled today the all-new 2015 M4 Convertible, just in time for the 2014 New York International Auto Show that will open its doors on April 18. Sharing the elegant lines of its open-top 4-Series siblings, the new M4 Convertible is powered by the same high-revving straight-six engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, found also on the M4 Coupe and M3 Sedan.
Thanks to the extensive weight-saving measures, the M4 Cabrio has a DIN kerb weight of 1,750 kg, which means 60 kilos less than its predecessor. The weight dropped thanks to the use of lightweight aluminum construction, aluminum front side panels and bonnet, as well as carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).
As you can see from the photos, the 2015 M4 Convertible comes with a three-part folding metal hardtop, which reduces wind noise by up to 2 dB compared with the outgoing model. At a press of a button and at speeds of up to 18 km/h (11 mph), the closed-roof high-performance sports car can be transformed into a sporty convertible in a shade over 20 seconds.
BMW offers the M4 Cabrio with a revised and wider-sided optional wind deflector and the new, optional neck warmers, inspired by the AirScarf system from Mercedes-Benz. Load Capacity is 220 liters with the roof open or 370 litres when the hardtop is closed.
The interior remains identical to the one found on the M4 Coupe, which means we find the M leather steering wheel with chrome trim and colour contrast stitching, an M gearshift lever, M door sill finishers, M driver’s footrest as well as the M-specific circular instruments with white graphics. As standard, the M4 Cabrio is available with electrically adjustable, heavily contoured leather sports seats with recessed head restraints and integral belt guides. [source: BMW]
