After we saw the 2015 BMW X6 (F16), it is time to take a closer look at the 2015 BMW X6 (F16) M50d. This model is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology that delivers 381 hp (280 kW) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque.
Thanks to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, this model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds, while fuel consumption is just 6.6 l/100 km (CO2 emissions are 174 g/km). Moreover, the 2015 BMW X6 (F16) M50d is offered as standard with Adaptive M suspension that comprises Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension with automatic self-levelling at the rear.
In addition, the spring damper system, support mounts and elastokinematics of the front and rear axle, as well as Servotronic mapping of the Electric Power Steering, all have an M-specific configuration. As an option, the X5 M50d is available with the Dynamic adaptive suspension package which comprises Dynamic Performance Control and active roll stabilization.
Behind the standard 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in two-spoke design we find large brakes, featuring 385 mm discs at the front and 345 mm discs at the rear. Optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in two-spoke design are available too.
Regarding the design, the 2015 BMW X6 (F16) M50d comes with larger air intakes, bespoke contours for the front apron, new side skirts as well as a new rear apron with air diffuser and integrated exhaust system.
Other design highlights include the horizontal Ferric Grey bars for the outer air intakes, the BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim, exterior mirror caps in Ferric Grey and trapezoidal, black chrome exhaust tailpipe embellishers, just like those found on the X6 xDrive50i.
Inside, we find the standard leather/Alcantara sports seats, an M steering wheel wrapped in leather and Aluminum Hexagon interior trim strips. Moreover, the interior features anthracite-coloured roof line, M drive’s footrest, model-specific door sill strips, “X6 M50d” lettering on the instrument cluster and an gear knob fitted with the M logo.
The cabin of the new BMW X6 gets a more luxurious atmosphere due to a combination of the richly sculpted surfaces, high-quality materials, and the high seating position. With the cockpit designed to be more driver oriented, the interior is able to have a better feel of exclusive sportiness. Helping with this sense of exclusiveness are the innovative display and control elements.
Then there is the line which dynamically runs beginning from the instrument panel all the way to the door panels resulting in the line forming a ring on the interior. Enhancing the luxurious feel further are the individual accents. These have been created by combining different materials and colors highlighting either the sporting, robust, or elegant, qualities of the new X6, as needed.
On the exterior, the body of the new X6 has been designed to have the strong presence of an X model and combine it with the signature sporting elegance the Coupes of the brand is known for. As such, it results in that unmistakable sporty look.
The new X6 remains to have many of BMW’s characteristic design features like the set-back passenger compartment, short overhang in the front, long wheelbase, and long bonnet. There is the large wheel arches and high window sill. Add in the short distance of the front axle and the instrument panel and it results to stability. Overall it puts focus on the fact that this Sports Activity Coupe is part of the BMW’s X model family.
