Back in 2013 at the SEMA Show, General Motors unveiled the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe Pacific Concept and the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible Atlantic Concept. Both concept cars received positive feedback and as a result, GM decided to offer the Atlantic and Pacific Design Packages for the 2015 Corvette Stingray.
The new Design Packages are to go on sale later this year with the rest of the 2015 Corvette Stingray lineup. The 2015 Corvette Stingray Atlantic Design Package is inspired by the luxury and performance of jets and it is offered only on Z51-equipped convertibles. Moreover, this design package is available in 2LT and 3LT trims.
The Atlantic Design Package adds a front Z06-style splitter, Shark Gray exterior vents, hood “stinger” graphic and tonneau inserts, Chrome Torque wheels fitted with Stingray center caps, Stingray underhood liner and floor mats, custom splash guards, a frame for the rear license plate and logo valve stem caps, as well as custom luggage.
GM will offer the Atlantic Design Package in all colors offered on the Corvette Stingray. The 2015 Corvette Stingray Pacific Design Package is inspired by the West Coast drivers who love the weekend track events. Just like the Atlantic Design Package, the Pacific Design Package is available only on the Z51-equipped coupe, in 2LT and 3LT trims.
The Pacific Design Package adds new color choices such as Torch Red, Black, Arctic White, Blade Silver as well as the new Shark Gray, a new color available for 2015. In addition, satin black full-length racing stripes are added, but also new satin black Z51 wheels featuring red stripe and Stingray center caps.
Furthermore, the vehicle comes with “CFZ” carbon fiber ground effects package and visible carbon fiber roof panel, Carbon Flash rear spoiler, outside mirrors and exterior badges, red brake calipers, Competition Sport Seats in red or black, carbon fiber interior trim, Stingray sill plates and floor mats, custom splash guards, rear license plate frame and indoor car cover (gray).
Under the hood, the vehicle comes with the standard 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 450 hp and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque. The engine is bolted as standard to the seven-speed manual transmission, but for the 2015MY the Corvette Stingray will get the optional 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.
The stimulating outside style of the Corvette Stingray is as practical as it is sophisticated, according to the global design executive director, Ken Parkinson.
Even though it does not duplicate details from prior models, the all-new Chevy Corvette Stingray has the distinct silhouette expressed through a lengthy dash-to-axle proportion, with a greenhouse that evokes a fighter jet’s canopy with twin-element tail lights. To this base, the design team created a design from two very unique sources: nature and aerospace.
For any new Corvette to earn the name Stingray, it must create an amazing, purposed visual impression, much like the 1963 original did. That visual impression is apparent in fighter planes and in actual animal, the stingray. Their splendour exudes from their function, engineered to slice through the air or water quickly and efficiently. As with jets and living beings, each shift to each surface of the Stingray is executed purposefully with grace and proportion.
Lighting is a hallmark component of the design of the Corvette C7 Stingray's and confirms its contemporary appeal. In the front, ancillary white LEDs create a distinct daytime appearance style. The lights are placed in black-chromed housings with standard HID projector headlights. The turn indicators have edge-lit amber LEDs.
New, twin-element taillights demonstrate the biggest variation from tradition and can be considered the vehicle’s most vibrant components. The solid, sculptured lenses encase modern indirect LED lights. The high-tech lighting uses concealed LEDs that shine from the housing’s bottom into a reverse reflector, producing an even radiance. LEDs also are employed in the white backup lights. The tail lights combine practical aircraft-styled air outlets to cool the differential and transmission.
