In order to pay homage to one of its iconic pickups, General Motors announced the new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Custom Sport Special Edition. Featuring a sophisticated monochromatic look for the double and crew-cab Silverados, the 2015 Silverado Custom Sport Special Edition features front and rear bumpers finished in the same color as the rest of the body, a body-coloured grille surround, a chrome-accented black grille, as well as chromed door handles and mirror caps.
Moreover, the vehicle features 20-inch chrome wheels and chrome body-side moldings, projector beam headlamps, tow hooks and heated power-adjusted mirrors. If you want such a pickup, you’d better know that the Custom Sport package will be available for the LT and LTZ models, including Z71s.
The LT models will be available only in black or white, while the LTZ models will arrive in black or White Diamond Tricoat. Custom Sport Package will cost between $1,950 and $2,950, depending on the model.
The exterior design of the new Chevrolet Silverado marries the brand’s truck heritage with a refined, contemporary visual styling. This gave birth to a new design that isn't just more muscular and more aerodynamic, but is also more functional. The strong presence of the new Silverado could be attributed to its dual power dome hood, twin-port grille, full-width bumper, sculpted body sides and fender flares.
Chevrolet designed the new Silverado not only to look good but also serve its cooling, aerodynamic and refinement needs. This is why its new front end boasts of improved sealing (efficient cooling), while its roof and tailgate spoiler were shaped in the wind tunnel (smoother airflow and reduced aerodynamic drag). Furthermore, new inlaid doors now fit into recesses in the body side to reduce wind noise (quieter cab).
Serving as the heart of the 2014 Silverado 1500 is any of the three all-new EcoTec3 engines -- a V-6 and two V-8s – that have been engineered for use in full-size trucks. All three EcoTec3 engines employ direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. All three engines could switch smoothly to four-cylinder operation during light load driving to enhance fuel efficiency. Moreover, all three engines deliver more power, more torque and are more efficient than their predecessors.
One of these engines is a new 4.3-liter V-6 mill that offers ample torque to propel a crew cab pickup while towing a substantial trailer. Also available is a new 5.3L V-8 engine that is more powerful and more efficient than its predecessor, which is currently regarded as the fuel economy leader among V-8s. Likewise available is a new 6.2L V-8 mill that could be considered as the most capable mill in any light-duty pickup.
Chevrolet will announce the final SAE=certified output and torque ratings as well as EPA-estimated fuel economy estimates for the new Silverado early next year.
Meanwhile, the new interiors of the 2014 Silverado 1500 convey the same focus on both form and function. For instance, the upright instrument panel, six-gauge instrument cluster as well as the available storage options could be tailored according to the needs of customers. The functional and logically positioned controls are now easier to operate even with work gloves on. Furthermore, it is now easier to enter or exit the rear cabin of the crew cabs. Likewise, access is now easier through the rear doors of extended cab models as they are now hinged at the front.
The 2014 Silverado 1500 is provided with the new Chevrolet MyLink that offers easy-to-use connectivity as well as natural voice recognition. MyLink boasts of enough ports and power outlets to support a number of devices.
