At the Texas State Fair, GM introduced the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Z71 editions. Available on the 2015 Tahoe and Suburban LT models with 4WD, the Z71 adds a new front skid plate, 18-inch wheels wrapped in off-road tires, a new grille, fog lamps, front tow hooks, front parking assist, running boards as well as the ‘Z71’ badge inside and out.
The new editions will go on sale this fall and will also get the OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hotspots, wireless phone charging capability and hands-free liftgate operation.
For those who don’t know, the hands-free liftgate and wireless phone charging are included in the Luxury Package offered on the LT models, while LTZ models get them as standard.
Besides the Z71 package, the 2015 Tahoe and Suburban models arrive with an updated coil-over-shock independent front suspension design, while the rear gets a five-link coil-spring suspension design. The four-wheel-disc brake system features Duralife brake rotors as well as automatic locking rear differential that provides better traction and comfort.
Chevrolet endowed the new 2015 Tahoe and Suburban with more refined and precisely sculpted exterior designs. In fact, these SUVs don’t share any exterior sheet metal panel or lighting element with the brand’s full-size pick-ups.
According to Ken Parkinson, executive director of design, the higher levels of functionality, refinement and technology of the all-new Tahoe and Suburban are communicated by their designs. Their designs convey a new SUV presence as delivered with unmistakable brand heritage.
Meanwhile, the new inlaid doors on the all-new 2015 Tahoe and Suburban are now fitted into the body side openings, instead of over the top. This design didn’t just improve the overall quietness of the interior of these SUVs, but also enhanced their aerodynamics.
This door design allows the new Tahoe and Suburban to slice through the air on the highway with lesser drag, resulting to higher levels of fuel efficiency. Thanks to hood and lift gate panels made of lightweight aluminum, the overall mass of these SUVs has been reduced, also enhancing their efficiency.
The new all-new 2015 Tahoe and Suburban feature chrome dual-port grilles as flanked by projector-beam headlamps sweeping into the front fenders. On the LTZ model of these SUVs, the front lighting units come as high-intensity discharge headlamps and light-emitting diode (LED) daytime running lamps.
The interior of the all-new Tahoe and Suburban combines sophistication, function and craftsmanship, as conveyed by their premium materials and improved ergonomics. These SUVs are provided with a new instrument panel houses that could be availed with an eight-inch color touchscreen. A secured storage bin is found behind the motorized screen while a large compartment – enough to accommodate a laptop – is integrated in the center console.
