2015 Citroen DS 6WR goes on sale in China

Article by Christian A., on October 14, 2014

PSA/Peugeot-Citroen commenced late September selling the Citroen DS 6WR crossover, its second DS model built in the country. The crossover measures 4,553 mm long, 1,858 mm wide and 1,588 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,732 mm and is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Citroen DS 6WR crossover comes with starting price of CHY193,900 (EUR25,069), but will be sold outside China. The crossover would not be sold even in Europe where PSA it does not offer a competitive compact SUV, sources have told Automotive News, since the DS 6WR has no diesel version because such engine is barred in China.

Likewise, the DS 6WR needs to be adapted to be able to meet stiffer crash and pedestrian impact standards in the European Union. PSA builds the DS 6WR at Changan PSA Automobiles Co.'s Shenzhen site.

Changan PSA is a 50-50 joint venture between PSA and Changan Automobile Co. and is dedicated to manufacture of Citroen DS models.

The venture commenced selling its first Citroen DS model -- the DS5 LS compact sedan -- in September 2013. PSA also operates a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp. that builds Peugeot and Citroen models in Wuhan, China.
