2015 Citroen DS3 Facelift arrives with new state-of-the-art headlights

Article by Christian A., on May 22, 2014

The stylish Citroen DS 3 and DS3 Cabrio received today a facelift for the 2015MY, which brings new features and technologies. The most important feature on the 2015 Citroen DS 3/ DS 3 Cabrio Facelift are the new state-of-the-art headlights inspired by the Numero 9 and Wild Rubis concept cars. The new headlights combine LED and Xenon modules with new sequential indicators and are a world first for the brand.

Both models retain the 3D-effect LED taillights, with a chrome-finished DS logo in a black embossed DS patter setting. In order to make sure that your car is unique, Citroen is introducing a new range of personalization options as the 2015 DS 3 Facelift is available with the choice of a laser-etched dashboard, and a screen-printed rear window, but also with new colors such as the Pearl White and Bell-lle Blue, which is available exclusively on the DS 3 Cabrio.

In addition, new 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are available on selected models. For the 2015MY, two new Euro 6 diesel engines are available: BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 100. Some markets will get the new PureTech e-VTi 82 ETG petrol engine.

The new petrol engine is available with the automated manual ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox), a five-speed gearbox that features a creep function and optimized software mapping capable to adjust power delivery for smoother starts and a better driving range.

In terms of safety, selected versions of the 2015 Citroen DS 3 Facelift are available with Active City Brake, an automated braking system that prevents low-speed collisions.

Both the Citroen DS3 and DS3 Cabrio are praised for delivering a thrilling ride, as made possible by their precise low-mounted running gear that allows for a spontaneous response in any situation. Both models also boast of supreme stability – ensuring higher levels of safety and control – thanks to thorough suspension work and precise power steering. This way, both the DS3 and DS3 Cabrio offer a perfect balance between performance and comfort to deliver greater driving enjoyment.

To enhance these dynamic attributes, Citroen is providing the DS3 with new petrol and diesel engines already compliant with the Euro6 standard. Among these are the BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 100 diesel engines that aren’t just more powerful but are also more environment-friendly. This is thanks to an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) module that cuts nitrogen oxide emissions by around 90 percent while slashing carbon dioxide emissions by around four percent.

With this technology, the BlueHDI 100 is considered as the cleanest engine in DS3’s segment and even in its class, with a version emitting just 79 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer. The BlueHDI 120, meanwhile, emits only 94 g/km of carbon dioxide. Despite offering high levels of performance, these diesel engines are more fuel efficient, with the BlueHDI 100 consumes just 3.0 liters of diesel per 100 km while the BlueHDI 120 uses up just 3.6 liters per 100 km.

As for its petrol engines, the DS3 is still available to the 207-bhp "Racing" engine and the THP 155, both of which are known for their performance and smooth response even at low engine speeds. The DS3 is also available with the Euro6-compliant PureTech e-VTi 82 ETG that consumes just 4.1 liters of petrol per 100 km (combined) while emitting just 95 grams of carbon dioxide per km. This engine could be paired with the clutch-less five-speed ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox) with a creep function and optimized pedal mapping, as well as the ability to adjust power for smoother start-ups and improved drivability.

Press Release

Citroen DS3 Facelift

The DS3 and DS3 Cabrio are once again shaking up established ideas and making a further statement of character with a new, unique and high-tech light signature. The two models are also receiving further upgrades, including the all-new Active City Brake technology, new Euro6-compliant engines and new personalisation options. All of which makes the DS3 and DS3 Cabrio even more irresistible than before.

Sensual and hypnotic: the new gaze of the DS3

DS3, the first DS model, shook up established ideas. Its styling, performance and customisation made it a real automotive icon, one that has sold in almost 300,000 units since launch, 66% of which to new customers.

A unique, high-tech, hypnotic gaze

The DS3 and DS3 Cabrio are gaining new headlights combining LED and Xenon technologies with new sequential indicators - a world first.

The new headlights provide the DS3 with even greater visibility in both low- and high-beam positions, with lighting of exceptional quality that is also restful on the eye. Three LED modules and a Xenon module are used to create a powerful, wide, uniform beam, for greater visibility and comfort when driving at night. The headlights also reduce energy consumption by 35% in low-beam mode and by 75% in high-beam. And with a standard life time of over 20,000 hours, the LEDs last twenty times longer than halogen lights.

Inspired by the Numéro 9 and Wild Rubis concept cars, the new lights feature independent modules styled to resemble diamonds in their setting. The DS3 has also been fit with innovative sequential indicators, unique in this class.

The new light signature is completed by LED DRLs in the front air intakes, a feature that makes the DS3 easy to identify. The DS3 and DS3 Cabrio also have distinctive 3D-effect LED rear lights. And as a final touch of sophistication, the 3D light features a chrome-finish DS logo in a black embossed DS setting.

The DS3 and DS3 Cabrio now boast an avant-garde light signature that is high-tech, high-performance and magically styled.

Renewed sophistication

To ensure that the DS3 and DS3 Cabrio remain unique and ever more appealing, DS is introducing a range of new offers and personalisation processes.

The DS3 is now available with a laser engraved dashboard strip, and screen-printed rear window. Two innovative processes whose theme makes a nod to the Parisian roots of DS. This personalisation theme, which is called "Irrésistible Paris", brings to mind the city's sophisticated architecture with a frieze of its most emblematic monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.

The DS3 also comes with new Pearlescent White body paint, rounding out the current colour range, as well as a new finish and new 17''diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Still available as optional or standard depending on the level of trim, the Nappa leather and crescendo watchstrap design meet exceptional standards of quality, reflecting all of the Brand's expertise. This unique know-how is based on the work of the best master craftsmen and a long tradition of French leatherwork.

New engines combining performance and efficiency

The DS3 and DS3 Cabrio have been acclaimed for their lively exciting ride, attributable to their incisive, low-mounted running gear, delivering a spontaneous response in all circumstances. Meticulous suspension work and precisely controlled power steering maintain absolute stability, bringing drivers more safety and control. In short, a perfect balance between performance and comfort, for greater driving pleasure.

Further enhancing these dynamic sensations, the DS3 gains new petrol and diesel engines that already comply with the Euro6 standard.

The two new diesel engines are the BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 100. More powerful and more eco-friendly, they feature cutting-edge technology, with an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) module that slashes NOx emissions by 90%, while also reducing CO2. Positioned upline of the additive particulate filter, the SCR module also cuts CO2 emissions by up to 4%.

As a result, the DS now ships with the cleanest engines in its segment: the BlueHDI 100 is Best in Class with a version emitting 79g/km of CO2, and 94g/km de CO2 for the BlueHDi 120. These engines also improve fuel-efficiency (3.0l/100 km for the BlueHDi 100 and 3.6l/100 km for BlueHDi 120), while meeting even higher standards of performance.

For the range of petrol engines, the DS3 maintains the 207 bhp "Racing" engine and the THP 155, unanimously recognised for their performance and smooth response from the lowest engine speeds. It is also available with the PureTech e-VTi 82 ETG, which complies with Euro6 standards. This engine is both economical (4.1l /100 km over a combined cycle) and eco-friendly (95g/km of CO2). It is available with the clutchless ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox). This 5-speed gearbox features a creep function and optimised pedal mapping, adjusting power effectively for smoother start-ups and enhanced driveability.

New high-tech modern equipment

The DS3 is also recognised for its comfort and convenience with five "real" seats and a generous boot, the largest in its category for both the hatchback and cabriolet versions. It also gains new features for city driving.

The DS3 and DS3 Cabrio are the first models to be equipped with the PSA group's Active City Brake technology, an automatic braking system that avoids low-speed collisions. A short-range radar function at the top of the windscreen detects obstacles such as vehicles driving in the same direction or stationary on the road ahead. At speeds of under 30 kph, the sensor activates the brakes automatically to avoid a collision.

For easier day-to-day manoeuvres, the DS3 and DS3 Cabrio are also available with a reversing camera linked to the eMyWay navigation system.
