Ok, we already knew that the 2015 Dodge Challenger powered by its all-new 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat engine is powerful as Chrysler told us that it will deliver over 600 hp. The surprise came today, when the manufacturer released the official numbers: 707 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque.
This means that the new Challenger is even more powerful than the Dodge Viper, which uses an 8.4-liter all-aluminum V10 engine that generates 640 hp and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque. Still, for those who don’t know, the 2015 Challenger is offered as standard with two key fobs, red and black.
The black key reduces the engine output to 500 hp, while the red key fob unleashes all the 707 hp. For the 2015MY, the Dodge Challenger was re-engineered and promises to be the most true-to-form muscle coupe with a new interior inspired by the iconic 1971 Challenger.
If you think that the power delivered by the new Hellcat V8 engine is too much for you, then Dodge offers the smaller and fuel-efficient Pentastar V6 engine, bolted to the TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission that generates 300 hp and an estimated 30 mpg.
In addition, there is the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T, powered by the high-torque 5.7-liter HEMI mated to the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual transmission. The 6.4-liter HEMI Challenger Scat Pack delivers 485 hp and 475 lb-ft (644 Nm) of torque.
