Chrysler unveiled today the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT, its most powerful Challenger ever that comes with the all-new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8 engine. The new V8 engine promises to deliver over 600 hp and it is available with an upgraded 6-speed manual transmission or the new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Still, if you think that this engine is too powerful, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT is also available with the 392 HEMI V8 engine, that generates 485 hp (up from 470 hp) and a maximum torque of 475 lb.-ft. of torque (up from 470 lb.-ft.).
This engine is available as standard with the six-speed manual transmission, while as an option Dodge offers the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic gearbox. The 2015 Challenger SRT offers three driving modes: Sport, Track and Default. The Default mode activates automatically when starting the vehicle.
Customers can choose their driving mode through the Uconnect system, by selecting “Drive Modes” from the “SRT & Apps” menu or from within the Performances Pages Menu. For the first time in Chryler’s history, the 2015 Challenger SRT equipped with a Hellcat engine is offered as standard with two key fobs, red and black.
The red key fob is used only when the drive wants to unlock the full hp and torque of the new Hellcat engine, while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output. Valet Mode is offered on both Challenger SRT equipped with the Hellcat engine and the Challenger SRT that uses the 392 HEMI engine.
When this mode is activated, the engine reduces its power, transmission locks out access to first gear and upshifts earlier than normal (limited to 4,000 rpm) and transmission will treat the manual shifter position the same as the drive position.
Moreover, the traction, steering and suspension are set to “Street” settings, steering-wheel paddle shifters are disabled just like the driving modes functions, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is enabled to full-on and Launch Control is disabled. The 2015 Challenger SRT comes with new 20-inch forged-aluminum Hyper Black wheels wrapped in Goodyear RSA2 all-season or Goodyear F2 Supercar Three-Season tires.
The 2015 Challenger SRT equipped with Hellcat engine is offered with exclusive 20-inch Slingshot split-seven spoke wheels with a matte black finish. Dodge also offers on the Challenger SRT Hellcat 20-inch lightweight forged-aluminum wheels with a Brass Monkey/dark bronze finish. Behind these wheels we find the largest front-brake package ever offered on a SRT vehicle: 390 mm Brembo two-piece rotors with six-piston calipers.
These brake discs are available on the 392 HEMI model when equipped with the SRT Track Pack. Regarding the design, the 2015 Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes with a new hood fitted with dual air extractors in order to ensure the heat removal.
The hood is offered as standard in a Satin Black finish. Another design element is exclusive on the Challenger SRT Hellcat is the Air Catcher inlet port, which channels the air directly into the engine air box. In addition, there is a larger front splitter designed for optimal downforce.
Moreover, the 2015 Challenger SRT features a new fascia design and a new vertical-split grille inspired by the 1971 model. The rear end shows new signature LED graphic, while the SRT Hellcat features a taller rear spoiler with a raised SRT logo. Inside, the 2015 Challenger SRT offers key design elements inspired by the 1971 Challenger, such as the new DID screen and analog speedometer and tachometer gauges.
The Challenger SRT with Hellcat engine comes with fixed gauges and digital graphics finished in a Dark Radar Red tone. A new trapezoidal-shaped aluminum enter console gets one of two finishes: Hectic mesh for the 2015 Challenger 392 SRT and Dark Engine Turn for the 2015 Challenger with Hellcat engine. A brand new heated steering wheel with a flat bottom completes the design.
The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 and SRT with the HEMI Hellcat will be available in 11 exterior colors: B5 Blue Pearl Coat, Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Pearl Coat, Ivory White Tri-Coat Pearl, Jazz Blue Pearl Coat, Phantom Black Tri-Coat Pearl, Pitch Black Clear Coat, Redline Tri-Coat Pearl, Sublime Metallic Pearl Coat and TorRed Clear Coat.
