This is the all-new 2015 Ford Expedition, the latest nameplate from Ford that offers a Platinum series. The biggest change on this new vehicle is that the old 5.4-liter V8 engine is replaced by a more fuel-efficient 3.5-liter EcoBoost found also on the 2015 Lincoln Navigator and capable to deliver at least 370 hp (276 kW) and 582 Nm (430 lb-ft) of torque.
2015 Expedition will be offered only with the EcoBoost engine, which is mated to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission that features a manual mode, allowing the driver to use a shift-mounted rocker switch to select the desired gear. Furthermore, the 2015 Expedition features Ford’s innovative electric power-assisted steering that improves maneuverability at low speeds and better feel at high speeds, but also saves fuel.
As expected, SYNC with MyFord Touch and driver-assist features such as Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert are also available. Inside, we find an 8-inch touch screen for SYNC with MyFord Touch, while the driver information cluster features two full-color 4.2-inch LED screens. Other highlights are the 10-speaker, 700-watt Sony audio system, the Intelligent Access with push-button start, rearview camera, seven-color interior ambient LED lightning and Ford truck apps.
Regarding the design, the SUV comes with a redesigned front end that features new headlights, a stylish, a new front bumper with integrated LED fog lamps, as well as a redesigned tailgate and chrome exhaust tips. Moreover, the vehicle comes with factory-installed 22-inch wheels. For the first time, a Platinum trim package is available and includes leather seating in a new Brunello leather, a red wine color with tuxedo-stripe accents and French-seamed stitching.
Platinum customers can also choose black leather with Agate Gray accents. Beyond the Platinum, series, the 2015 Expedition lineup will include XLT, Limited and a new King Ranch Edition that will be revealed later this year.
Ford Expedition is available for the very first time on the new Ford nameplate. It has a new continuously controlled damping that will make it the United States’ only Blue Oval-branded vehicle with three available drive modes: normal, comfort, and sport.
With a range of sensors that can detect 46 unique body, braking, and steering inputs, the Expedition’s advanced suspension monitors its body motion then adjusts its damping system in just milliseconds in order to manage the natural body motion of the vehicle.
Moreover, the new Expedition features the carmaker’s innovative electric power-assisted steering. This gives you improved maneuverability at lower speeds as well as better feel at higher speeds. Moreover, the electric power-assisted steering helps save fuel as it works more efficiently compared to the traditional pump-driven systems. This technology lessens steering effort and it also makes the vehicle more engaging to drive.
Furthermore, the new Expedition boasts popular technology upgrades that consumers now look for and expect. These technology upgrades include driver-assist features like the radar-based Blind Spot Info System plus cross-traffic alert, and SYNC with MyFord Touch.
