The 2015 Kia Sorento was introduced in South Korea and as a result, the manufacturer released more details about its third-generation SUV. Featuring a lower roofline and a higher beltline as well as a swept-back shape, the 2015 Sorento shows an increased length of 4,780 mm (+95 mm), a height reduced to 1,685 mm (-15 mm) and extra width (+5 mm to 1,890 mm).
Depending on the market, the vehicle will offer power outputs that will range from 172 to 270 hp. The 2015 Sorento will carry a 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection (GDI) unit, 2.4-liter and 3.3-liter multi-point injection (MPI) engines as well as revised 2.0-liter and 2.2-liter ‘R’ turbodiesel engines.
Europe will only get the 2.2-liter turbodiesel and the 2.4-liter GDI engines while a final decision on the UK lineup has yet to be made. Regarding the design, we 2015 Sorento comes with a new tiger-nose grille featuring a distinctive 3D diamond patter which was first featured on the Kia Cross GT Concept.
Moreover, there are new wrap-around headlamps and more prominent fog lamps. The most significant improvements can be found at the interior, which can be described as more sophisticated, luxurious and with higher quality materials. Depending on the market, the interior will be offered in single-tone (Saturn Black) or two-tone (Saturn Black and Stone) colour schemes.
As an option, Kia will offer brown or light grey colour schemes in leather trim. The extended wheelbase (+80 mm to 2,780 mm) translates into more interior space, while cargo space increased thanks to a cargo bay floor (up by 87 mm).
Kia will offer the 2015 Sorento in five- or seven-seat versions and according to the official press release, the second row seats in the seven-seat version will be ‘remote folding’ controlled by two levers in the side of the cargo bay.
Plenty of advanced on-board technologies will be available such as Around-View Monitor and Smart Power Tailgate. In terms of safety, the 2015 Sorento is available with ASCC (Adaptive Smart Cruise Control); LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System), which emits an audible alert when the driver strays from the chosen lane without using indicators; FCW (Front Collision Warning); BSD (Blind-Spot Detection); LCA (Lane Change Assist); RCTA (Rear Cross-Traffic Alert), which warns against other cars driving behind the Sorento in car parks; and SLIF (Speed Limit Information Function).
Most of the major improvements made on the all-new are found in its interior, with styling penned by Kia’s designers in Europe. Thanks to their efforts, these designers were able to create a more luxurious and more sophisticated cabin that employs higher quality materials.
Adhering to a “modern and wide” styling theme, the cabin features a stable, horizontal arrangement and wide appearance. This width is accentuated by the wider instrument cluster and interior garnish as well as by the wrap-around shape of the dashboard extending into the door trims. By employing more soft-touch materials and leather, designers were able to give the new Sorento a premium and luxurious feel and ambience.
Some of the most distinctive interior styling elements inside the cabin of the new Sorento include its Swiss watch-inspired center-console that makes use of Kia's latest HMI (human-machine interface) technologies. The dashboard features flowing contours that rise to integrate the driver's instrument binnacle and the design curve in the doors. These contours flow from the audio speakers to the SUV-styled grab handles.
The interior could be specified in different color schemes -- with cloth or leather trim – depending on the market. The interior could be specified either as a single-tone (Saturn Black) or two-tone (Saturn Black and Stone). The interior could optionally be wrapped in brown or light grey color schemes in leather trim.
