Exterior Design

Sensual clarity as an expression of modern luxury is the design philosophy of Mercedes-Benz and was the main focus in designing the vehicle offerings of the German premium carmaker. This design philosophy aimed to create smooth surfaces and clear contours – all conveying the high-tech nature and emotional charm of Mercedes’ creations. To realize sensual clarity, three core design values serve as the guides -- Tradition, Emotion and Progression – as highlighted differently in each model.

In designing its vehicles, Mercedes aims to link modernity and avant-garde as well as tradition and progression. Thus, each model series at Mercedes is given a certain role and a specific character, as guided by the core value that the design intends to highlight. Despite the differences, a Mercedes vehicle is immediately identifiable thanks to new stylistic developments as well as to styling elements that have become that character of the brand.

Since the new Mercedes GLA is an SUV, it combines the core values of Progression and Tradition. As the SUV of the future, the new GLA is an all-rounder unit that is laden with signature SUV genes from Mercedes as reinterpreted to feature more youth and more drama.

The dramatic appeal of the new GLA is exuded by its raised vehicle body, low greenhouse and large wheel arches. Its clearly defined surfaces are harmoniously complemented by precise lines, thereby helping vary the contours of the body.
