Article by Christian A., on August 26, 2014

Earlier today we revealed you folks the 2015 Volvo XC90 but we didn’t tell you anything about the carmaker’s surprise. Volvo will release the XC90 First Edition in order to celebrate the year company was founded 87 years ago. This edition will be limited at 1,927 units and each vehicle will be individually numbered but what’s more interesting is that the special edition will be available for order only via digital commerce at volvocars.com/us.

As expected, the 2015 Volvo XC90 First Edition will feature unique numbered plaques, distinctive badges and a leather-wrapped key fob featuring the First Edition logo. Under the hood, the XC90 will feature a supercharged and turbocharged T6 AWD petrol engine producing 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, bolted to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Moreover, the First Edition will get Four-C, an electronically controlled damping system. In addition, each vehicle will feature the Onyx Black exterior, 8-spoke 21-inch Inscription wheels, nappa leather seats in Amber, a Charcoal leather dashboard and Linear Walnut wood inlays.

The interior also receives heated front seats equipped with ventilation, which are also power-operated . The outer seats in the second row have heating while the two third row seats are power-operated.

XC90 First Edition owners will get the Bowers & Wilkins audio system that includes a 1,400 watts Class D amplifier, 19 speakers and one of the first air-ventilated subwoofers integrated in a car.

In terms of safety, the XC90 First Edition gets as standard the City Safety, company’s auto brake functions which prevent collisions. If you are interested, you’d better 2015 Volvo XC90 T6 AWD First Edition carries a price tag of $65,900.

Wide-ranging discussions with customers have led to innovative digital artistry with interactive design. The display’s layout looks like a flexible stack of tiles, each displaying a main function.

Data, media, and navigation have higher placement making each of them easy to see. Communication controls, icons for applications, and temperature controls have a lower placement, so they are easier to reach to activate.

As soon as a tile is touched on the display, it expands for interaction, and the others are still visible but compressed so that they are still immediately accessible.

This means that the touch display is extraordinarily easy to use, without any need to return to the main menu to switch to another function.

Four-zoned climate system

The new Volvo XC90 can come with a climate system that has four zones with specific settings for front row occupants as well as those in the second row. A separate third-row air-conditioning system comes standard or as an available optional depending on the market.

Volvo’s CleanZone air purification system, which is among the most efficient available on the market, has further improvements with a newly added carbon filter for more effective filtering of the intake of air for small, damaging particles and pollen.

Press Release

Volvo XC90 First Edition

Volvo Cars is releasing a limited First Edition of its all-new Volvo XC90, which was launched today in Stockholm. The 1,927 individually numbered cars celebrate the year Volvo was founded and, for the first time in history, they will only be available for order via digital commerce at www.volvocars.com/us.

The online store opens for business on September 3rd at 10:00 am ET.

“Those who want to be among the first ones to own the best SUV in the world have to act fast. The huge interest in the all-new XC90 indicates that the First Edition will sell out quickly,” said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group.

The online only First Edition is just one example of Volvo Cars’ revitalized approach to marketing activities and outstanding personal service.

Fully equipped

The First Edition cars have uniquely numbered tread plates, a distinctive badge on the tailgate, a leather key fob with the First Edition logo, and are powered by a high-performance gasoline engine from Volvo Cars’ new four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains.

The supercharged and turbocharged T6 AWD has an output of 316 hp and a maximum torque of 295 lb.-ft. The engines are teamed with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission.

The 4-corner air suspension includes Four-C, an electronically controlled damping system. There is a choice of five modes, including one where the driver is free to tailor the settings to his or her personal taste.

Black exterior and amber leather seats

The Onyx Black exterior and 8-spoke, 21-inch Inscription wheels are combined with an interior featuring supple nappa leather seats in Amber, a Charcoal leather dashboard and Linear Walnut wood inlays.

The power-operated heated front seats are equipped with ventilation. The outer seats in the second row have heating and the two third row seats are power-operated.

The tablet-like touch screen in the center is one of the most striking features in the all-new XC90. It is the heart of the all-new in-car control system that is virtually button free and represents an entirely new way for drivers to operate their car and access a range of Internet-based products and services.

The Bowers & Wilkins audio systems features a 1,400 watts Class D amplifier, 19 speakers, one of the first air-ventilated subwoofers integrated in a car and the latest sound processing software, which brings the emotional experience of a world-class live performance into the car.

Most comprehensive standard safety package

The car offers the most comprehensive and technologically sophisticated standard safety package available in the automotive industry. It includes two world first safety technologies: a run-off road protection feature and auto brake at intersection capability.

City Safety, which becomes the umbrella name for all of the Volvo Cars’ auto brake functions, is also standard. Collision prevention and mitigation is now possible with vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians in front of the car, day or night.

The fully-equipped XC90 T6 AWD First Edition carries a price of $65,900.
