2015 VW e-Golf priced from $35,445 in the United States

The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf a.k.a. the electric version of the Golf 7 (VII) is preparing to hit the US dealerships in November 2014 but the German manufacturer has just announced that its electric vehicle will carry a price tag of $35,445 for the SEL Premium model, excluding the $820 destination charge.

For this amount of money you will get a drivetrain that consists of a 24.2 kWh lithium-ion battery as well as an electric motor delivering 115 hp and 199 pound-feet of torque and a 7.2 kW onboard charger as standard.

The engine is bolted to a single-speed EQ270 transmission and it is able to push the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 10.4 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 87 mph.

Volkswagen says that the e-Golf has a range between 70 and 90 miles and with the 220-volt wallbox for a garage or carport the battery can be charged in less than four hours, while with the 110/120-volt electrical socket the battery needs 20 hours for a full recharge.

The e-Golf will be available as standard with a 5.8-inch touchscreen navigation system and infotainment center, Bluetooth technology, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, a multifunction steering wheel wrapped in leather, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED headlights, 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, keyless access, heated front seats and rearview camera.

Thanks to its all-LED headlights, the four-door Volkswagen e-Golf can easily be recognized even when viewed from afar. Compared to xenon headlights, the LED lamps generate more light while consuming less power. The new e-Golf is also identified – like all Volkswagen electric cars from now on – by the C-shaped signature of the LED daytime running lights positioned in restyled front bumper.

On the rear, Volkswagen has made it easy to tell that the e-Golf is an environment-friendly zero-emission electric vehicle thanks to the absence of any exhaust pipes, as well as to certain model name markings and the VW logo with a blue background. The new rear lights of the new e-Gold also employ LED units. The new VW e-Golf rides on aerodynamically balanced 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205 tires that offer low rolling resistance.

Inside, the new VW e-Golf features a specific fabric design, with the seats -- featuring Merlin e-grey / Clip titanium black pattern. They’re also optionally available in leather. The new e-Golf is also loaded with a good level of standard equipment like automatic climate control, high-end Discover Pro radio-navigation system as well as parking heater/ventilation. Featuring the 'Iridium Matrix / Dark Magnesium' trim, the interior of the new e-Golf comes with a leather steering wheel, leather gear knob and heated windscreen. Furthermore, the new e-Golf features a new instrument layout and a touchscreen in the center console equipped with new functions.

Blue elements present on the exterior can also be found in the interior of the new VW e-Golf, like on the decorative seams of the leather steering wheel and gear knob, as well as on the edgings of the floor mat. The optional 'Ambience pack' LED reading lights, blue ambient lighting around the decorative trim and blue-illuminated footwell and door-sill tread plates.

The rev counter on the left-hand side of the e-Golf’s instrument cluster has been replaced by an output availability indicator and a power display that could indicate: if the electric motor is ready; if the battery is being recharged through regenerative braking; or if power is being drawn. The right-hand side of the instrument cluster, meanwhile, features a speedometer that could go up to 160 km/h.

Below the speedometer is an indicator for the charge level of the high-voltage battery. Sandwiched between the power display and the speedometer is a premium multifunction color display that indicates the driving range of the current level of regenerative braking, the remaining charging time and the type of charging connection. A separate LED field in the lower section of the multifunction display would show a 'READY' message as the driver starts the vehicle.
