Volkswagen decided to mark the introduction of its 2015 Golf R model in the United States with a special launch edition. Limited to just 500 units, this launch edition can be pre-ordered starting January 8th and customers can secure their place in line by paying a $500 reservation fee. According to Volkswagen, the first 500 Golf R models will be identical and based on the topline Golf R with DCC & Nav as well as the six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Moreover, all the models will be painted in Lapiz Blue Metallic, will feature 19-inch Cadiz aluminum-alloy wheels wrapped in summer performance tires, Bi-Xenon headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights, the DCC adaptive damping system, Park Distance Control, a navigation system and the Fender Premium Audio System.

Each unit will start at $39,090 plus $820 destination and delivery charge. In addition, the first 500 owners will receive an exclusive, numbered Volkswagen Driver Gear R accessory kit, which includes a serialized VW R watch, a serialized carbon fiber and stainless steel keychain as well as a serialized and VIN-specific certificate.

For those who don’t know, each Golf R will use a 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine producing 292 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, 36 hp and 37 lb-ft more than its predecessor.

The engine pushes the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, while top speed is 155 mph or 250 km/h. Despite these performances, the Golf R promises to return a fuel economy rating of 30 mpg on the highway.

Volkswagen R GmbH was able to develop a wide array of new exterior elements for the Golf, like bumpers, rear diffuser, side sills, and the chrome dual tailpipes. VW R also developed a new layout and lighting design for the bi-xenon headlights, as well as the standard 18-inch alloy wheels and optional 19-inch rims.

Distinguishing the new Golf R from its regular counterpart are a number of details like a new bumper design with large air inlets as well as a modified radiator grille with "R" logo. The housings of the bi-xenon headlights now integrate newly developed LED daytime running lights forming a characteristic dual "U" design beneath the headlamps.

The new Golf R is also distinguished on the sides by newly designed 18-inch "Cadiz" alloy wheels shod in size 225/40 tires. The Golf R also sports black brake callipers with "R" logo, side sill panels in "R" style painted in body color, as well as "Matt chrome" door mirror caps. The front wing also comes with "R" badges on the front wings.

VW R is offering optional 19-inch alloy wheels as well as 19-inch "Cadiz" rims. Also optional are 19-inch "Pretoria" wheels available as "flow-forming" rims, which are known for their light and sturdy nature.

On the rear, the new VW Golf R is marked by smoked LED rear lights with a characteristic light-colored stripe in the middle. The new Golf R is also marked on the rear end by an "R" logo on the boot lid, diffuser in "R" design and four chrome tailpipes.
