If you always wanted to own a muscle car for everyday use, we think now is the right time to have one. Apart from the added AWD traction, the new Challenger GT also comes with better fuel economy. Well, that also means the 2017 Dodge Challenger GT won’t come with a V8 engine. This will probably leave those who had been wishing for an AWD Hellcat very disappointed. Or maybe not.
According to the EPA’s leaked info, Dodge’s latest model will have the 3.6-litre, V6 engine along with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This type of engine can deliver as much as 305 hp with up to 268 lb-ft of torque. The EPA has estimated its fuel economy to be at least 18 miles per gallon for the city, 27 mpg for the highway and 21 mpg combined.
Consider the added traction as a bonus, which will be perfect for the cold weather and slippery roads this time of the year. Above all, the price for the Dodge Challenger GT starts at $34,490.
This makes the new Challenger not only more powerful but also more affordable than the Infiniti Q60 or the Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic Coupe. The C300 boats up to 241 hp while the Q60 come with either 208 or 300 hp.
What’s more Dodge’s new muscle car is far better than the 248 hp BMW 430i xDrive or even if we have to compare it with Audi’s latest A5 with only 217 hp. The AWD setup features an “active transfer case” that disengages the front-axle if no power is needed. In other words, all muscle goes onto the rear wheels unless necessary at the front.
Despite the new model year, Dodge hasn’t done any significant changes on the new Challenger. Not anything major that sets apart the new one from the older versions. By standard features, the exterior of the 2017 Dodge Challenger GT comes with the usual fog lights, rear spoiler, 19-inch alloy wheels and all-season performance tyres.
Inside, the Challenger GT features an 8.4-inch infotainment screen, heated steering wheel and luxurious Nappa leather upholstery for the seats. The seats come with heated and ventilated options as well. Besides these, the infotainment system features “Uconnect” display for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
Deliveries for the new Challenger with AWD are expected around the first quarter of 2017. Meanwhile, an optionally available GT Interior package can be had for only $995. This includes high performance steering wheel, a 9-way speaker stereo system and a blend of Alcantra fabric and Nappa leather for the seats.
