Lamborghini offers proof of Huracan Performante record run at Nürburgring

Lamborghini has officially offered clear proof that the Huracán Performante was able to set a new record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of 6:52.01

It was in early March of this year when the brand revealed that this model managed to get that achievement and as proof, it released a video showing the telemetry. While fans were happy with the achievement, there were some who questioned if indeed the record was real.

According to blog BridgetoGantry.com, the speedometer may have not have received the wheel speed but rather the GPS data, which is considered by some as less precise. What the website did was to compare the speedometer of the Huracan Performante with that of the Aventador SV. The website also said that looking at the video, it appeared that the brand had increased the frame rate by as much as 5%. There were also those who supported Lamborghini like Chris Harris of Top Gear who said that while the video may have been edited, it is possible that the lap time is real.

To remove all doubt, Lamborghini has offered proof and this was done through Director of Research and Development Maurizio Reggiani who spoke with Roadshow at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. For starters, Director Reggiani said that the Pirelli Trofeo R tires were not made solely for the run made but were offered to customers as a possible option.

Reggiani did confirm that with regards to the video, the speed show did come from GPS. He agreed as well that using GPS can lead to some unpredictable, and sometimes unreliable, data. To set the record straight, he shared the whole VBox GPS log which clearly shows all the data obtained during the run.

Though this is not likely to completely silence the skeptics, many are saying that it appears above board. Add in the fact that the Huracan Performante is powered by one of the best engines there is and that doubt is lessened, if not completely obliterated. Under its hood, there is the 5.2-liter V12 engine which can deliver output of 630 hp (470 kW) with peak torque measured at 443 lb.-ft. (600 Nm). With all these available power, it would not be surprising to know that the Huracan Performante is able to achieve a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h). Acceleration meanwhile from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) is possible in 2.9 seconds. Going from standstill to 124 mph (200 km/h) takes 8.9 seconds.

That being said, the price won’t come as a surprise as well. In the U.S. market, it is priced at $274,390 with the one in the Chinese market coming in at 3.85 million renminbi. In the U.K., it costs 173,271 pounds with the rest of Europe at 195,040 euros. Japanese customers can experience it as well but it will cost them around 31.6 million yen each.
