X-Tomi’s rendering of the latest CX-5 Mazda Performance Series is simply stunning

The recently concluded 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show has just showcased the new generation Mazda CX-5. And with it comes a rendered version for an MPS variant. Let us see what the guys from X-Tomi Design are up to.

To begin, the MPS-wearing CX-5 features a variety of body panels to make it sportier and stand out from the standard mid-size SUV. As you can see, the most prominent design goes to the black trim along the front grille and the much-larger set of wheels. The low riding Mazda CX-5 also has new side skirts, lip spoiler and front bumper to complete the MPS get-up. So there it is! X-Tomi has done an impressive job.

Of course there is no actual confirmation if this will come into production. That said, Mazda has concocted a new paint color for the SUV befitting its latest “KODO Soul of Motion” styling. The “Soul Red Crystal” as they call it is the more premium version of Mazda’s Soul Red body paint.

The mixture has fifty percent more depth and twenty percent more color saturation than the regular shade. It also features reflective coating in three layers to bring out a much clearer and more translucent effect. In line with this, Mazda developed a new red pigment to go with its translucent coat. Light aluminium crystals are then added to the top layer to absorb light.

What makes this great is that its overall design is actually inspired by the CX-9. The new Mazda CX-5 features a wider grille and arched headlamps with narrow air intakes. Aside from the chrome trims on the windows, the rear end is now emphasised by a more distinctive pair of tail lamps.

The SUV’s interior has a new layout for the infotainment system. The CX-5 now features navigation system, heater configuration for the seats and warning display. Other than these, they also added emergency braking, lane –departure warning and blind monitoring among its safety features. The advanced infotainment system comes with Bose audio system with 12 speakers surrounding the very spacious cabin.

You might wonder why the new CX-5 already has a massive following. Aside from its incredible aesthetic appeal, the new Mazda CX-5 is also perfect for those who are looking for fuel efficiency with its 22 mpg (for the city), 28 (for highway driving) and 25mpg combined fuel returns. But there’s more; it is equipped with the latest Skyactiv-G 2.5 turbo direct injection four-cylinder engine that’s capable of up to 277 hp.
