McLaren releases 5 fascinating Design Editions for 570S

Article by Christian A., on November 29, 2016

One of the many challenges that can be experienced in buying a McLaren is in selecting from the many specifications available for the model. The various choices for the interior and the exterior, like the material, the color, and finish, to name a few, are staggering. Note that this is even before one has the chance to look into what the personalization service of the McLaren Special Operations can do.

There is however some good news as the brand revealed that for those planning to get the McLaren 570S, the process has been made easier with the release of five groups of options dubbed the “Design Editions.”

Let’s start with power. The special editions are fitted with standard equipment that’s definitely not of the ordinary variety. Specifically, these models are powered by the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with output of 570 hp (425 kW) with top torque of 442 lb.-ft. (600 Nm). All of the power is then transmitted by the dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. With this, the 570S is able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in merely 3.2 seconds with maximum speed coming in at 204 mph (328 km/h). The figures are considered as excellent given that the 570S is an entry-level supercar.

In terms of the design, each of the five choices has a different theme based on different colors. Additionally, they were all created by the British automaker’s in-house designers. One of the models, particularly the Design Edition 1, has bodywork in Vermillion Red put on top of brake calipers in red and the five-spoke diamond-cut wheels with the Stealth exhaust. On the inside, one can see that the steering wheel has a dual color, stitching in Slate Gray, and then finished with the brand’s very own leather sill trim. For the seats, it has been upholstered with Apex Red Nappa leather and Carbon Black alcantara. Meanwhile for its fascia panel, the lower portion is in Apex Red leather while the upper part is in Jet Black leather.

The remaining four choices are Onyx Black, Silica White, Storm Gray, and Ventura Orange. McLaren revealed that customers have the option to put in additional trim or equipment. They can even opt to have extra carbon fiber parts. This just shows that for some people, the complications associated with buying a McLaren is part of the process.

This package, as the brand disclosed, is priced at £8,500, or around $10,565. Customers may think this is a bit pricey but McLaren said that this amount is in fact significantly lower when compared to putting in the additional parts individually. This puts its total price now at £151,750, or about $188,630. The brand is at present accepting orders with delivery of the units expected by 2017. Price for the units to be released in the U.S. market has yet to be revealed.
