The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been around for quite some time now but to bid it farewell, the company has launched the Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition. Mercedes will only build a total of 65 examples of the Final Edition, which will be sold worldwide. And each of them will come with a price tag of 310,233 euros (around $368,000).
To make it look exclusive and high-end, the SUVs will feature bronze accents on the exterior - from the 21 inch wheels, the bumpers, front grille surround, mirrors, to the center section of the spare wheel cover at the back. Both sides of the body get a high-gloss black trim in the protective strips, and the grille up front now gets a black mesh center.
Inside the Final Edition’s cabin are a number of upscale features like the black nappa leather that covers the seats, and the carbon-fiber-like finish for the seat bolsters. To give it some contrast while keeping it looking high-end, Mercedes gave the diamond quilted center sections bronze stitching. Furthermore, there is a light brown weave that highlights the carbon-fiber trim throughout the interior. Heated and ventilated seats will ensure the comfort of passengers when the climate changes.
The Final Edition is no different from the rest of the G65 range. It will be equipped with a 6.0 liter biturbo V12 engine carrying out 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts) and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton-metres) of torque. This engine is paired to a seven-speed automatic that brings power to all four wheels. As for performance, in just 5.3 seconds, it can get the large SUV to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour), before continuing to its top speed of 143 miles per hour (230 kilometers per hour).
Before the next-generation G-Class is launched, the company will halt the production of the G500 4×4² by the end of October.
We might see the G-Class SUV as early as January 2018 at the Detroit Auto Show. It might even lose some weight when it sits on a new platform. Furthermore, it will be fitted with a digital instrument panel inside. In other news, the next G63 will be getting a 4.0 liter biturbo V8 by Mercedes-AMG; another version of this will power the G65.
The details mentioned earlier regarding the G65 Final Edition have been confirmed by Mercedes-Benz USA, and thirty of the very limited 65 examples will make their way to the country. Each one will be priced at $252,690 after the $995 destination cost. Since there will only be a limited number of the luxurious SUV, this will only be available in select dealers in Southern California, Texas, Southern Florida, Tri-State Area in New York and Atlanta.
